Official ceremony for the 18th birthday of Princess Elisabeth of Belgium

The crown Princess Elisabeth of Belgium turned 18 on 25 October 2019. There was a magnificent function held to mark the day at the Royal Palace in Brussels. The whole event was televised.

There were performances in the form of ballet dance. Besides, there were royal speeches and also a former Eurovision star performed at the ceremony.

The proud parents of Princess Elisabeth, King Philippe, 59, and Queen Mathilde, 46 were present on the occasion. King Philippe was smiling and he presented a medal-the Order of Leopold to the coming-of-age Princess.

The Princess also gave a speech to an audience comprising of VIP guests and her mother Queen Mathilde fought back tears on seeing her little child grow up splendidly.

The other attendees included her grandparents, the former King Albert II and his wife Queen Paola, and also Elisabeth’s siblings namely Prince Gabriel, 16, Prince Emmanuel, 14, and Princess Eleonore, 11. The King’s brother Prince Laurent was also there to congratulate his niece.

The significance of this milestone in Princess Elisabeth’s life

This milestone in the life of a person is always significant. But it carries more importance to this Princess. This is so because now she is legally old enough to rule with no need of any substitute regent.

When Princess Elisabeth takes the throne, she will the first Queen of Belgium who will be the Queen by her birth and not by her marriage. The other queens were all wives of the male heirs to the throne.

At the function, the ballet dancers were from the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp. Besides, Eurovision star Blanche also performed on stage. The young Princess was wearing a white tailored trench coat with a flattering belt.

She also donned nude suede heels. She had put her hair half-up and half-down. Princess Elisabeth also wore simple stud earrings for the occasion.

King Philippe also delivered a speech on this special occasion for his daughter. He said:

‘Happy birthday, my dear Elisabeth. Spread your wings, be happy. This is what I wish you wholeheartedly.’

Princess Elisabeth is the eldest daughter of the current King and Queen of Belgium. She is studying at the boarding school UWC Atlantic College in South Wales and returned to Brussels for this ceremony only this week.

This college is a top private college that is dubbed ‘hippie Hogwarts’ and the Princess joined it at the start of this term. The other famous alumni of this college are Dutch king Willem-Alexander and Princess Raiyah of Jordan.
