Airplane middle seat upgrade! FAA has approved of a new middle seat design which makes it bearable and comfortable to sit in the middle seat!
Many flyers were wary of getting the airplane middle seat while flying. They like the window seats and do not mind the aisle seats.
The US Civil Aviation body, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has now approved a new staggered seating design for airplane cabin which will make flying in the middle seat more comfortable.
The new staggered seating design for airplanes
The S1 is a new innovative seating arrangement for airplanes. In this innovation, the middle seat in the economy cabin of airplanes will be several inches lower than and also further back from the adjacent aisle and window seats. The US Federation Aviation Administration or FAA, in short, has given its approval for this new design.
Various media outlets have reported that after the approval, an unnamed US airplane has already ordered this new airplane to add to its fleet. By the end of 2020, 50 aircraft would have this new design, Fast Company has reported. It is meant for short-haul flights.
The Development of the new seating design for airplanes
The company Molon Labe Seating has been in the process of designing the product for the past five years. Their aim was to develop a seating arrangement which does not diminish the airplane’s capacity but at the same time brings about some comfort to the traveler traveling in the middle seat.
Hence, the company came up with this new design. This new design will also provide more elbow room for all the travelers. The armrests come angled. Hence the middle passenger can now use the back portion while the window and aisle passengers can have the front portion of it.
The middle seat passenger no longer will have to be squeezed between his adjacent co-passengers. He also gets a, wider seat since the middle seat is 21 inches wide as against the previous 18 inches. Each seat also has its own smartphone or tablet holder, a USB port and a latch-less table.

He added:
“The trick is to actually sit in the seat. In fact, our main sales tool is to ship seats to airlines so they can sit in them.”
The company is also making S2 and S3 model seat which they plan to use for long-tail flights. These are wider with the facility of sideslip. In the latter, the aisle seat can be slid over the center seat. This helps to women the aisle when passengers ate boarding so that the process is quicker.
