Johnny Depp made his return to Cannes but not everyone is happy with his comeback. His ex-wife Amber Heard‘s friends are trying their best to put a stain on it.
Depp, 59, appeared on the red carpet for the premiere of his movie Jeanne du Barry which officially opened at the French film festival on Tuesday.
The Maiwenn directed and starred movie in which the actor plays the role of King Louis XV received much appreciation from the audience at the event.
Sources close to Depp revealed that the actor got his life back after being humiliated for years and has even signed a new Dior deal worth more than $20 million. He will also star in a directorial debut with Al Pacino in the near future.
Amber’s close friend and journalist Eve Barlow posted a photo of Depp on social media over the weekend protesting his appearance at the festival, writing, “Cannes seem proud of their history supporting rapists and abusers. Plus ça change. #CannesYouNot.”
A second image showed, “‘Jeanne Du Barry’ Representing Abusers at Cannes.”
Additionally, she also shared a photo of Depp with directors Woody Allen and Roman Polanksi each of who is accused of abusing minors.
But sources close to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor said,
“The other people in this post are alleged or convicted child predators and rapists; that is not Johnny. He won his trial and he was not accused of anything like this.”
Barlow is now living in Spain where Heard is living with her 2-year-old daughter Oonagh.

Fans loved seeing Depp at Cannes
Despite Heard’s friends’ protest and allegations, thousands of fans appeared at the festival to catch a glimpse of the actor.
Variety mentioned that Johnny was teary-eyed when he received the honor from the people in the theatre.
Maïwenn also said inside,
“I want to share this moment with my lover, with my producer, with Le Pacte. It was a production that was difficult to finance … and I want to share this moment with all my team across the theater.”
Cannes director Thierry Fremaux also defended Depp’s appearance at the festival. He said that he was not interested in learning about the actor’s legal woes, saying,
“I don’t know about the image of Johnny Depp in the US,”
“To tell you the truth, in my life, I only have one rule: It’s the freedom of thinking, the freedom of speech and the freedom to act within a legal framework.”
“If Johnny Depp had been banned from acting in a film, or the film was banned, we wouldn’t be here talking about it.”
Fremaux added,
“If there’s one person in this world who didn’t find the least interest in this very publicized trial, it’s me.
“I don’t know what it’s about. I also care about Johnny Depp as an actor.”
