How does American actress, Katie Holmes memorize her lines for an acting scene?
Katie Holmes is the ex-wife of American actor, Tom Cruise. She is 44 and the couple share a daughter named Suri. Katie is also an actress and has to memorize her dialogues for the scenes. Recently, she revealed to Variety that she has an unique way of acting and memorizing her lines for the act. It is entirely different from that of ex-husband, Tom.
Katie Holmes and her method of acting
Katie Holmes, 44 is the ex-third wife of American actor, Tom Cruise. She has her own unique way of acting and remembering her lines for the act. Katie did an interview recently in 2023 with Variety. In this, she stated her method of memorizing her dialogues for an act. Katie explained:
“It’s silly. But if the line is ‘I’m going to Sant Ambroeus.’ I go — ‘I.’ ‘I am.’ ‘I am going.’ ‘I am going to.’ That’s the way I was taught,”
“It takes a long time.”
“Before every scene, I go through my lines. I have a little secret show bible next to the stage. Just like in life, you can have a brain fog. Some people could just go in. I’m too nervous.”
Tom Cruise’s method of remembering his lines
Tom Cruise did Days of Thunder with his ex-second wife, Nicole Kidman. In 1995, Tom had revealed to Vanity Fair magazine that meeting with Nicole the first time ignited instant lust in him. Nicole was also nervous on seeing him for the first time.
During the film production, Tom had a scene in which he was driving and delivering his dialogues simultaneously. But often, he used to forget his lines. Initially, Tom tried to tape pages of his lines onto his dashboard to help him remember the lines. But this was risky since he was driving at the same time. He wrecked a car in the process.
The ultimate solution the production house resorted to was to provide him an ear piece through which his lines were fed to him during the driving scenes. That helped and the scene was shot properly after that.
Does Katie also forget her lines?
Katie tries to remember her lines and practices for it. But like Tom, she too forgets her lines sometimes. In 2012, Katie shared a story with David Letterman about the time when she had forgotten her lines on stage and got embarrassed due to it. This was on Broadway for Dead Accounts. Katie recalled:
“A couple weeks ago I had the moment that I’ve been dreading,”
“I have this kind of big speech in the second act, and it’s pretty important because it kind of goes along with the theme of the show. I said the first line — and I’m looking at Judy Greer and I’m supposed to be angry at her — and then the second line I didn’t remember. And I didn’t remember the third one.”
Katie continued:
“I just looked at her like, ah!”
She had to improvise a bit but fortunately found her way back. Katie added:
“Obviously, I know what the point of it is. So, I kind of made my way there.”
