Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde are engaged
There is some great news about the love life of American alpine skier, Mikaela Shiffrin, 29. She has been dating fellow skier from Norway, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, 31 since last few years. The two have decided to take their relationship one step higher. Aleksander proposed to Mikaela recently and she said yes.
The two announced this happy news on their respective Instagram accounts. It was a joint announcement posted on Thursday 4 April 2024.
It showed a photo of Mikaela showing off her new engagement ring and smiling to the camera. The second photo was of a smiling Aleksander as he held Mikaela’s hand with the new engagement ring. The caption had emojis of an engagement ring, the hand of heart, a couple’s emoji and it also showed two happy faces.
The relationship timeline of the couple
The two time Olympic gold medal winner Mikaela had met Aleksander in a ski camp several years back. But they were just contacts or casual friends. It was only about three to three and a half years back that their friendly relationship changed to a romantic one. They went public with their relationship in May 2021.
The two are great supporters of each other’s careers. One year back in March 2023, Mikaela made history in the World Cup. She broke the long-standing record of Swedish skier Ingemar Stenmark of all-time World Cup wins. Aleksander posted a photo of her on his social media and wrote below:
“The greatest skier (and human) of all time. You’re spectacular Mikaela!!!”
The pair were together at black tie events 2023. At this event , Mikaela’s name was included in Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the ‘Pioneer’ category. Additionally, she also won her first ESPY as ‘Best Athlete – Women’s sports’.
After the engagement, people and fans are keen to know about when the wedding will take place. Aleksander told Reuters that it is still too early to decide on a wedding date. He is still recovering from a crash injury. He said:
“It will probably come when we have settled down, so it will probably be a few more years,”
The mutual respect…
Aleksander respects Mikaela and after they confirmed their relationship, he had said:
“What I find really cool is that we can share experiences and have conversations about things I can’t really have with anyone else. She has a lot of experience; I have some experience and we can make each other better,”
Aleksander added:
“Also, you know, I like her as a person more than anything else. For me that she’s a skier is just a bonus.”
As regards the wedding, Aleksander had said in December 2023 to Vail Daily:
“We talk about the future for sure. The future is what we live for. We have a really good time together, and that’s what’s important, and if that turns into a marriage and having kids, then that would be awesome.”
Both had suffered injuries during the skiing race. Mikaela had injured her knee and ankle in late January 2024. She was under medical treatment for six weeks and has improved enough to compete again.
One week before her crash, Aleksander too sustained injuries similarly. He is yet to recover and is in rehabilitation phase now. He had shoulder dislocation and tore some ligaments along with a deep cur in his calf region.
