“In the spring of my junior year at Harvard, my period was late. I had been in a relationship for almost two years with a loving and supportive boyfriend. We used birth control, but it malfunctioned. When I learned I was pregnant, I knew immediately and without question that I wanted an abortion. I had no desire to be a mother at that time — I wanted to finish college and start my career.”

Amy after diagnosis was advised surgery but she did not want to do it. But ultimately she was forced to undergo an operation since her symptoms continued relentlessly. However, Amy accepts:
“But surgery ended up being what healed me. I’m so grateful to Western medicine.”

Ulcerative colitis
It is an inflammation of the large colon inner lining. The cause of this disease is obscure and genes and environment, bacteria, immune dysfunction are said to play a role. There is abdominal pain, loose motions, bloody diarrhea, fever, weight loss, and other organs involvements (eye, joints, bones, etc.).
There are flare-ups and tissue biopsies are needed to diagnose the condition. Certain medicines can control the disease but surgery is the option for severe cases.
