Baby Driver star Hudson Joseph Meek dies at 16 after tragic accident

The 16-year-old actor, best known for his role as the young version of Baby in the film Baby Driver, died on December 21, 2024, following a serious accident.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, he fell from a moving vehicle in Vestavia Hills, Alabama on December 19.
The incident happened around 10:45 PM local time, resulting in blunt-force injuries.
Meek was taken to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later.
The Vestavia Hills Police Department is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Meek’s mother, Lani Wells Meek, announced the tragic news of her son’s passing on social media. She wrote,
“Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight. His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.”
Hudson is survived by his parents, older brother named Tucker Firth Meek, grandmothers, aunts, and uncles.
An obituary revealed that Hudson was an organ donor, which brings comfort to his family as they know “he will continue to help others.” The obituary added,
“He was surrounded by friends, family, and the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He worked on several major motion pictures and television shows, some of which will be released in 2025. He absolutely loved spending time on set and having the chance to learn the names and stories of every member of the cast and crew,”
Furthermore, he was described as “confident, convicted in his beliefs, spontaneous, and quick-witted. He never let the facts get in the way of a funny story, and he loved friendly banter.”
To honor his memory, his family established the Hudson J. Meek Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded to a Vestavia Hills High School student every year. They request that donations be made to this fund instead of sending flowers.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for December 28, 2024, at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama.
The entertainment community is grieving the loss of Hudson Joseph Meek.
His talent agency also paid tribute to him, describing him as an “extraordinary young talent” whose “dedication, passion, and promise shone brightly within our industry.”
The statement reads,
“Over the past 10 years, he contributed so much to the spirit of our agency and his loss leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all of us. Hudson was more than just a talent, he was a source of inspiration and touched so many lives with his enthusiasm, kindness, smile and innate ability to light up a room and never meet a stranger. He will be remembered with great affection by us all.”
A rising star Hudson Joseph Meek
Hudson Joseph Meek started acting when he was young and quickly gained recognition for his impressive performances.
He got his career breakthrough in 2017 with his role as the younger version of the main character in the film Baby Driver, directed by Edgar Wright.
In the following year, he guest-starred in an episode of MacGyver and contributed voice work to the animated series Badanamu Cadets.
His television appearances also included roles in Legacies, Found, and Genius.
Outside of acting, Meek was an active sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, where he played on the football team, sang in the Honor Choir,, and participated in student government.
Additionally, he earned an advanced open-water scuba diving certification at the age of 14 and traveled to all 50 states in the U.S.
