Barry Manilow struggles with his sexuality for a longtime; Know about his relationship, marriage, and career
Of Course, dealing with sexual orientation is a problem for many people around the world. Opening up as a homosexual is not as easy as we think. And being a public figure, no doubt revealing sexuality is the biggest deal ever.
Barry Manilow has gone through this difficult lane throughout his entire life. For this reason, he shares his difficulties while facing and dealing with the fact for the first and foremost time, that he is ‘Gay’ with the people.
Barry Manilow reveals and comes out as a ‘Gay’
The man who has established his name in the world of music with lots of hits kept his personal life in a dilemma but far from the news and public.
On the other hand, the music legend fights with the difficulties all alone in his life. For the very first time, he came out and revealed being “Gay”.
Manilow recently welcomed PEOPLE in his house for an interview and photoshoot with his manager husband Garry Krief. He talked about their 40 years of romance after a very long time.
He said:
“I’m so private. I always have been.”
He also said that he always knew that Music was his all-time first love. Furthermore, he also said his second love in high school was Susan, who is also the woman he was married to after his graduation.
He says:
“I was in love with Susan. I just was not ready for marriage.”
Next music legend Manilow also said that he was dealing with his sexuality at that time. He added:
“I was out making music every night, sowing my wild oats — I was too young. I wasn’t ready to settle down.”
Barry Manilow and Garry Krief’s Relationship
At the time when he was rising to fame and success, he met Garry Krief, who was a TV executive and Houston native. After that, Kief became Manilow’s manager and that is a role that he still holds today. Now, he is also the President of Barry Manilow Productions.
Manilow says:
“He’s the smartest person I’ve ever met in my life — and a great guy, too,”
Meanwhile, the longtime friend of Bary Manilow, Suzanne Somers says:
“There’s Barry Manilow the performer, and then there’s the Barry ‘machine.’ It takes enormous savvy and know-how to book and market complicated arena tours, choreograph promotion, direct the entire team and make it look effortless, and that part is Garry’s domain. A major career takes two. Between them, there is enormous comfort and trust.”
The long way together wasn’t an easy way for this couple. They had many roller coaster rides in their relationship. Manilow remembers one of the incidents when Keif attended his concert.
He says:
“I got into the car with him, and [the fans] were rocking the car. He was like, ‘I can’t handle this. It’s not for me.’ I’m glad he stayed.

Why did Barry Manilow take a long time to reveal the news
Paul O’Grady, who has known Barry for a very long time says he knows how difficult it is to reveal his sexuality. He says:
“Unfortunately showbusiness is mostly based in the US and it panders to Middle America because they represent the majority. They’re all freaks – a bunch of religious fanatics, blinkered bigoted idiots.
He also said that they have remained very old and good friends. Paul who is an old friend of Barry says:
“And it will never change there with that lot. They’ve got the president they deserve with Donald Trump and under him I think things are only going to get worse. Faced with that it’s no surprise Barry wrestled with coming out publicly.”
Moreover, he said:
“We all knew he was gay, and he knew everybody knew he was gay. We’d talk as one gay man to another, you know, I’d say: ‘What are you up to when you get home?’ and he’d say ‘Oh, me and my partner, we’re going away to Miami, HE loves it!’
Furthermore, he said:
“I just didn’t make a big fuss about it, and neither did he. In private he’d never deny it – I think the truth is that nobody ever asked him publicly.
“So he just kept his sexuality low key. As you get older you just want to keep your private life low key. I think the main reason he’s being so open about it now is because he’d done it, he’s made his money and I genuinely think the world has changed.”
