Veteran actor Michael Lerner passed away at the age of 81
Michael Lerner passed away at the age of 81. The veteran actor had received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of a studio head in the 1991 movie ‘Barton Fink’.
His nephew and fellow actor Sam Lerner announced the news through a post on social media.
Sam wrote on Instagram:
“We lost a legend last night. It’s hard to put into words how brilliant my uncle Michael was, and how influential he was to me. His stories always inspired me and made me fall in love with acting.”
He added:
“He was the coolest, most confident, talented guy, and the fact that he was my blood will always make me feel special. Everyone that knows him knows how insane he was— in the best way.”
He then explained how lucky he was to spend time with him:
“I’m so lucky I got to spend so much time with him, and we’re all lucky we can continue to watch his work for the rest of time. RIP Michael, enjoy your unlimited Cuban cigars, comfy chairs, and endless movie marathon.”

Michael Lerner was an American actor born on June 22, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York. He made appearances in numerous films, television shows, and stage productions throughout his career.
The late actor’s most notable film credits include his role as Jack Lipnick in the Coen Brothers’ film ‘Barton Fink’ (1991), for which he received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Moreover, he also appeared in other films such as ‘Elf’ (2003), ‘Eight Men Out’ (1988), and ‘Godzilla’ (1998).
In addition to his film work, he had a successful career in television, appearing in shows such as ‘Law & Order,’ ‘The Twilight Zone,’ and ‘The X-Files.’
Furthermore, he also worked extensively in theater and performed on Broadway in productions such as ‘The Sisters Rosensweig’ and ‘Angels in America: Millennium Approaches.’
