All That We Know About Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s Ongoing Feud!
- Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni sparked feud rumors ahead of the movie’s premiere.
- The 2024 movie is based on Colleen Hoover’s book of the same name.
- Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, played a role in one of the movie’s major scenes.
What happened between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni?
The most talked-about feud surrounding the much awaited movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s book It Ends With Us was that of the main lead stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
The world fell apart when fans first noticed that the two stars were not in the same place at the same time for the film’s press tours and even avoided each other during the premiere on Aug. 6, 2024.
A few sources said that Baldoni and Lively did not get along on the set at that time.
An insider initially narrated that Baldoni, the movie’s director, made Lively feel “uncomfortable,” creating what has been termed “an extremely difficult” atmosphere on set for the cast in general.
And while sources who have worked with Baldoni told us he would never intentionally make anyone uncomfortable, additional insiders claimed “none of the cast enjoyed working with Justin.”
As if that was not bad enough, four months after, Lively would file a suit against Baldoni citing sexual harassment and would also brand him as a person trying to “destroy” her reputation.

Creative differences between Lively and Baldoni
The Hollywood Reporter claims that there are other reasons for Baldoni and Lively’s feud: deep creative differences on set. Baldoni directed the film, and Lively was a producer.
“There was a fracture among the filmmakers in the postproduction process, wherein two different cuts of the movie emerged,” reports the outlet.
Another source said Lively commissioned cutting of the movie along the lines of what editor Shane Reid would do for husband Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on Deadpool & Wolverine.
Lively used to work with Reid on his Taylor Swift-directed music video entitled “I Bet You Think About Me.”
According to the Gossip Girl alum, using Lana Del Rey’s “Cherry,” which was “too charged and heavy,” in the film, was one example of how creative differences manifested.
Rolling her eyes, she said to Hits Radio UK: “They begged me to take it out of the movie. … I’m not supposed to be talking about this.”
Ryan Reynold’s role
When Reynold appeared to take over the writing for one of the scenes in the movie, that difference of opinion between Lively and Baldoni got intensified.
At the film’s premiere, Lively told E! News, “The iconic rooftop scene-my husband actually wrote it. Nobody knows that, but you now.”
“He works on everything I do. I work on everything he does,” she stated at that time.
What happened next that heated the argument between Blake and Justin?
Baldoni also disclosed that Lively was “engaged in every aspect” of the production.
“With every touch, she made better,” he told.
“I am grateful to Blake for simply being a powerhouse performer and an amazing collaborator, and just all the people, the crew,” Baldoni added.
After the confessions concerning Reynold and Lively’s involvement, Baldoni added that he would not be coming back as a director for the sequel, which is “It Starts With Us”.
Speaking with “Entertainment Tonight,” he called the actress-the one who played Lily Blossom Bloom-a everything-the better option to direct the supposed adaptation.
He also told Variety that he had yet to commit to the project despite his company, Wayfarer Studios, buying the rights for an “It Starts With Us” movie adaption.
“I haven’t even begun to think that far ahead. I’m trying to stay in the present as much as I can,” he told the outlet in July 2024.
Lively and Baldoni: No more a team
Baldoni exclusively walked the carpet for the movie premiere with his wife, Emily Fuxler.
Lively, however, had a photo op with Hoover, Brandon Sklenar, who plays Atlas, and also Jenny Slate, who plays Alyssa.
She was also pictured with her husband and Hugh Jackman, who worked with Reynolds in “Deadpool & Wolverine”.
Also, Lively and cast members reportedly watched the movie in one theater while Baldoni and his wife watched from another. Even though Hoover and Lively kick-started the screening, Baldoni was absent.
In this way, the couple, Baldoni and Emily Fuxler, appeared on the red carpet at the movie premiere. However, no other person was with them.
Meanwhile, Lively had an opportunity to pose for pictures with Hoover and Brandon Sklenar, who plays Atlas in this film, and Jenny Slate, who fills the role of Alyssa.
Why was Baldoni absent during promotions?
Mostly, Baldoni has been busy promoting this film and giving interviews solo.
Lively did several press tours with Sklenar and Isabela Ferrer, who plays a younger version of her character in the movie.
Moreover, the fans also noticed that these interviews spoke about maybe two different films, for Baldoni focused on the domestic violence theme of the film while Lively talked about the wardrobe and how abuse does not “define” her character.
After enduring days of being bashed by “being tone deaf” and not talking about all the domestic violence experienced by her character in the film, Lively tried to make amends by posting resource materials for abuse survivors on an Instagram Story in August 2024.
She shared again a BBC interview in which she stated her character is more than just a “survivor” and “victim.”
Slate, as well as Lively, has yet to comment on her rumored drama with Baldoni, but Slate has gone viral after completely avoiding a question involving Baldoni’s role as director-actor in the film.
“What an intense job,” the comedian quipped to Deadline. “To have to do so many things.”
Social media shade
Most of Baldoni’s other co-stars do not follow him back on Instagram, and even the show’s author, Hoover.
Hoover connected with Baldoni in the year 2019 when Baldoni bought the film rights to her book.
That said, Reynolds allegedly blocked Baldoni on the social media platform even before the film’s premiere.
Throwback footage
As it happened after a user posted a video of Blake Lively and Baldoni seemingly arguing on set in 2023, news came out on Aug. 13, 2024, that he hired veteran PR crusader Melissa Nathan.
The news from TMZ the next day was that Lively, who had just given birth to her fourth baby, believed that her co-star was fat-shaming her on set by asking his trainer how heavy she was and what way he could avoid injuring his back when lifting her.
The outlet, too, stated that she found him pausing lingering too long while they were doing their kissing scenes.
Blake breaks her silence
In December 2024, Lively lodged a charge of sexual harassment against Baldoni, accusing him of attempting to “ruin” his reputation using an alleged smear campaign.
According to her accounts, a so-called “all hands” meeting — with Reynolds also present — had previously been convened concerning Baldoni’s actions.
It was at that moment supposedly asked by the Director not to add even more sex scenes “beyond what was scoped out” in the original approved script. Nor to expose her “nude videos and images of women,” among others.

Baldoni reacts to Blake’s accusations
Baldoni’s statement declared, “These allegations are absolutely false, affronting and have a determinedly salacious intention to harm in public and revamp a narrative in the media,” Baldoni said in denying his co-star’s rather “shameful” allegations.
He countered that he engaged a disreputable PR crisis manager, not to take part in “social manipulation” activities against Lively. His and Wayfarer Studios attorney Bryan Freedman said.
“This is after her threats to not showing up to set, her threats to not promote the film, which eventually would doom it during release if she were not given more requirements.”
