Bradley Cooper Talks About His Sobriety Journey and Past Addiction Struggles!

Bradley Cooper is grateful for his sobriety
Bradley Cooper is opening up about his sobriety journey.
The Hollywood heartthrob recently appeared in a recent episode of National Geographic’s Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge where he spoke about his past addiction struggles. He told Grylls that he feels very lucky to have overcome past struggles.
The actor told the host at one point that he felt he didn’t get lost in fame. Grylls. 49, then asked him, “But you definitely had some wild years?”
Bradley responded, “In terms of alcohol and drugs, yeah. But nothing to do with fame, though,”
He added, “But I was lucky. I got sober at 29 years old, and I’ve been sober for 19 years. I’ve been very lucky.”
Bears, somewhere in the conversation asked Cooper if his past addiction helped his character in A Star is Born role where he plays the character of a musician with alcohol addiction.
Bradley responded,
“It made it easier to be able to really enter in there,”
”And thank goodness I was at a place in my life where I was at ease with all of that, so I could really let myself go,”
He added,
“I’ve been very lucky with the roles I’ve had to play. It’s been a real blessing. I hope I get to keep doing it.”

Cooper talked about how his father’s cancer affected his life
Previously Bradley told People how his dad’s death from lung cancer in 2011 changed his perspective on life.
He told Bear,
“I definitely had a nihilistic attitude after for a little bit, just like I [thought], ‘I’m going to die,’
The dad of one added,
“I don’t know, it was not great for a little bit, until I realized I had to just embrace who I actually am, and try to find a peace with that. And then it sort of evened out.”
Cooper’s dad’s death also affected his own experience as a dad to his daughter Lea, 6, whom he shares with model Irina Shayk.
The Guardians of the Galaxy star explained,
“I mean, you learn from your predecessor’s mistakes. And I’ll make tons that hopefully Lea will learn from, and then being rigorous with myself to grow,”
“To help unburden her with any of my bulls—.”
Cooper has been very open about his previous battles, telling GQ in 2013 that his substance abuse was going to end his life if he did not get help.
He said at the time,
“I think work was getting f–ked up. The one thing that I’ve learned in life is the best thing I can do is embrace who I am and then do that to the fullest extent, and then whatever happens, happens,”
”The more steps I do to not do that, the farther I am away from fulfilling any potential I would have.”
