British celebrity Graham Linehan warned by UK police to not call a transgender by his birth name!
- There is a rising number of people who are transgender people in the world and these people come in the LGBT community through transgender person embraces several subgroups and is more of an umbrella term for all of them
Transgender community
There is an increasing number of transgender people in the world. They identify themselves with a gender that is different from their birth.
Some of these also undergo gender reassignment surgeries to transition from one gender to the other and are then called transsexuals.
Such individuals require a lot of support especially in mental and have different laws governing them in different countries.
But there is one thing common which is that these individuals like to be called by their taken name and not birth name and take offense if someone addresses them by their birth name.
A recent incident in the UK would highlight this aspect of the lives of these individuals.
British celebrity Graham Linehan
Graham Linehan is a creative type of celebrity and is the co-creator of the funny show called Father Ted. This British sitcom airs on Channel 4 and is produced by Hat Trick Productions. It is written by Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews both of which are Irish.
It focuses on the lives of three priests on an island. Graham himself is a Leftist and a social justice advocate.
Police knock on the door of Graham Linehan
Graham is known to get into trouble on social media, especially on Twitter. Twitter is a dangerous thing since whatever is written tends to be noticed by the world and hence it could land one into controversies and trouble. The same happened to Graham.
Graham had a verbal fight with a transgender activist named Stephanie Hayden. The transgender person was born a man and now states that he is a woman.
While fighting online, Graham called the person by the name he was given by his parents which was, of course, a male name. He referred to Stephanie as ‘he’ and deadnamed her.
And lo and behold! The transgender person called the police who then came knocking on Graham’s door. Graham was warned that he should not say things on Twitter that hurt people’s sentiments or feelings.
These are put on record for Graham which would remain forever considering the fact that the record system of the UK Police is extraordinarily excellent.
It is reported that the police department in London has a force of more than 900 policemen who are hate crimes beat.
This means that these policemen watch for and handle hate crimes and do you know that this number of policemen could be higher than the army of some countries.
The UK is well ahead in all these aspects of society and crimes of the cyber world. They have already laws in place to deal with such cases which are increasing at the root level.
