Celebrated Pakistani-American chef Fatima Ali succumbs to bone cancer!
- Pakistani-American chef Fatima Ali who was on the show Top Chef and also a fan favorite died due to bone cancer on 25 January 2019.

Top Chef’s participant, Fatima Ali who was also a favorite of fans succumbed to bone cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma.
Fatima had a relapse and was aware that she has a few days to live now. She got sicker by the day and breathed her last. She was just 29 years old.

Fatima Ali was diagnosed with bone cancer called Ewing’s sarcoma in 2017. She took treatment for it and was said to be free of cancer in February 2018. Her surgery for bone cancer was done at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in January 2018.
But unfortunately, the cancer returned in September 2018. There was nothing much that the doctors could do about this relapse and had told her that she had one year to live.
Fatima Ali’s last Instagram post
Despite her ill health, Fatima used to write on her social media. Her last post was on her Instagram on 11 January 2019 when she told her fans that she is too sick.
She had written:
“I’m sick and unfortunately I’m getting sicker. Right now all I need are prayers; prayers that are simple. I hope, because a wish is putting on too much responsibility on the other, that you will somehow find forgiveness in your big heart for whenever I must have hurt you. I thank you a million times over for when you have given me joy.”
She asked for forgiveness from those whom she might have hurt unknowingly.
Fatima Ali’s article on Bon Appetit
When her bone cancer did a comeback, Fatima Ali had written an article for Bon Appetit. She was sad within but put up a show of courage and humor when she penned the article. She wrote:
“I was looking forward to being 30, flirty and thriving. Guess I have to step it up on the flirting. I have no time to lose.”
In the article, Fatima also detailed how her outlook on life has changed as she is nearing her death at a quick pace and is aware of it. She said in the essay:
“In my wallet, I keep a crumpled cocktail napkin with a list of names scrawled on it.They’re people I need to make amends to before I go. I have to learn how to ask for forgiveness without expecting to receive it.”
She had added:
“Until then, every day is an opportunity for me to experience something new.”

Her yearning for some more years of life is obvious from the various posts which she wrote towards the end of her life! May her soul rest in peace!
What is Ewing’s sarcoma?
It is a rare form of bone cancer that is malignant and made up of small, round cells. It affects young people and teenagers and male to female ratio tends to be 1.6:1. 5-year survival rates are put as 70-80% with chemotherapy.
