- The celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta spoke to Glamour UK and revealed his childhood details
- The successful MUA was bullied badly when he was a child and it forced him to leave school
Patrick Ta said:
“The bullies were so bad, I dropped out of high school”
He also revealed that he had several names given to him such as Fatty, Fatty Patty, Fatrick… and more.
Patrick also disclosed that he did not react in the right way to all this bullying and ended up feeling very unconfident in himself. He also stated that the feeling never went go and is still there within him.
Patrick’s work and the confidence
Patrick is a famous MUA now. He has clients such as Ariana Grande, Adriana Lima, and Chrissy Teigen. He has several celebrity friends and his Instagram is full of beautiful and adorable makeup and has a huge fan following.
It was this recognition of his work that boosted his confidence and he said:
“My lack of confidence only started to change when I started to get recognised for my work. People started appreciating what I had to offer, and not just how I looked – which is ironic, because obviously makeup is so visual, but it goes to show that makeup and beauty go so much deeper in so many ways.”
Patrick and his message of acquiring a passion
Patrick feels that one should find a passion in life and pursue it in order to get free from all the negative feelings in life. He said:
“Finding your passion will set you free”
He added:
“If you’re someone who is getting bullied, I think it really helps to discover what you’re passionate about and what inspires you and focus on that rather than the bullies. If you pursue your passion, you’ll shine and prove all those bullies wrong in the end.”
Patrick and his accolades
Patrick was not only appreciated by his clients and fans, but he also received a number of awards and accolades. He said:
“Being chosen as Shiseido Global Colour Artist was a huge compliment”
Ta elaborated:
“I’ve ony been doing makeup for six years and to be trusted by Shiseido, which is such an amazing, heritage beauty brand, is such a huge compliment. Plus, I’m so grateful to be part of a brand that is so innovative. For the recent makeup relaunch, they pulled all their products off the shelves and reformulated them to be the absolute best. I think that attitude of bettering yourself and letting go of the past in order to excel is something I truly respect.”
Patrick thanks his parents
Patrick went on to say that he is grateful to his parents for supporting him and helping him grow as a person. It was their unconditional love that boosted his morale and he came out of the non-confident state.
Patrick is also now prepared mentally to face his bullies and said:
“If I saw my bullies now, I would just be nice”
He added:
“When you’re young, you just want to be accepted and hang out with the cool kids but I wish I could go back in time and tell myself not to care. When you grow up, you realise there’s so much more to life and the bullies won’t matter any more.”
