CCTV footage of his death
The zoo personnel checked on the CCTV footage of the death. CCTV cameras are installed inside the zoo to keep a check on the animals. The footage reveals that the panda was in his enclosure.
He had his meal of bamboo leaves and was walking around well but soon began to limp. After that, he collapsed. The zoo staff tried to revive him but we were not successful.
The zoo vets were unsure of the cause of his death. Wutthichai Muangmun feels that the death might have been due to old age.
But it was all so sudden that they decided to rule out other reasons leading to his death by conducting a post-mortem on the panda.
On 6 August 2019, the panda celebrated its 19th birthday in the zoo. The China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda and the consulate gene are also mourning the panda’s death.
Experts from The China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda will go to Chiang Mai Zoo to coordinate with the Thai authorities to reach the exact cause of the panda’s death.
