Charles Spencer, late Princess Diana’s brother is divorcing his third wife, Karen Spencer!
He was not lucky the third time as well. We are talking of Charles Spencer, the brother of late Princess Diana. This Sunday, he revealed to The Mail that he is divorcing his third wife, Karen Spencer.
Charles Spencer and his divorce
The 9th Earl Spencer, Charles Spencer, 60 is set to divorce his third wife, Karen Spencer. He is the brother of the late Princess Diana. Charles revealed this sad news to The Mail this Sunday. He said:
“It is immensely sad,”
“I just want to devote myself to all my children, and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future.”
And, this happened at the time when Charles was busy writing his tell-all memoir titled A Very Private School. In this, he has narrated his traumatic experiences as a child and student at Maidwell Hall which is a highly reputed boarding school of the UK. Sadly, Charles was subjected to physical and sexual abuse there.
In early 2024, Charles held release events in London for his book. But Karen Spencer was conspicuously absent from these events. This was an indication that all is not well at their marriage front. Moreover, during the same time, Charles had confided about their separation to his staff at the Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire.
The relationship timeline of the couple
Charles and Karen had met in Los Angeles in 2010 on a blind date. As regards Karen, she is a Canadian philanthropist and social entrepreneur. Additionally, she had founded a charity, Whole Child International and is its chief executive. This organisation is based in Los Angeles and serves children with no parents or those who are abandoned and/or abused.
Karen was earlier married to Hollywood producer, Mark Gordon and has two daughters with him: Emma (born 1997) and Kate (born 2001). They divorced in 2003.
The two, Charles and Karen started dating and walked down the aisle together on 18 June 2011 at Althorp. The couple has a daughter, Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer who was born on 30 July 2012. Her name was after her late aunt, Princess Diana.
However, the pair separated in April 2024 and are set to divorce now. But it is also learnt that Charles is close and fond of archaeologist Dr. Cat Jarman. Cat and Charles are together hosting the podcast The Rabbit Hole Detectives.
The past marriages and children of Charles
Charles’ first wife was Victoria Lockwood whom he married on 16 September 1989. They have four children together: Lady Kitty Eleanor Spencer who was born on 28 December 1990, twins Lady Eliza Victoria Spencer and Lady Amelia Spencer whom the two welcomed on 10 July 1992, and Louis Spencer who was born on 14 March 1994.
The family relocated to Cape Town, South Africa in 1995. But their married life did not last long and the couple divorced on 3 December 1997.
Later, Charles dated and wed Caroline Freud on 15 December 2001. She was the former wife of business tycoon Matthew Freud. They have two kids together: Edmund Spencer who was born on 6 October 2003 and Lady Lara Caroline Spencer who arrived on 16 March 2006. But this marriage too failed. The couple split in 2007 and legalized it later.
