Titanic was a 1977 hit movie that is still one of the most loved movies. However, back at the time, the three-time Emmy-winning actress Claire was supposed to play the lead of Rose DeWitt Bukater opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. Recently, when she made her appearance in Dax Shepard’s podcast “Armchair Expert, she revealed that she did not accept the role of the titanic. She also mentioned:

“I think I did [get offered the role]. I’m not entirely clear on that. There was strong interest.”

Shortly before the filming of Titanic, the actress and Leo starred together in the movie ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The actress mentioned that Leo was hesitant and she was not ready for the role. The actress further went on to explain saying:

“I had just made this romantic epic with Leo in Mexico City, which is where they were going to shoot ‘Titanic. And I just didn’t have it in me.”

The Emmy award-winning did not forget to mention she does not regret her decision at all. Furthermore, she also mentioned at the time the two had the same manager and the two were at the office together. The actress also revealed at the time, Leo was quite sure he wanted to do this movie. In addition, she explained:

“And I was on a balcony, which is funny…and Leo had this rental red convertible… he was kinda going in circles in the parking lot. ‘And I knew he was wrestling with the decision to do that movie or not and he just looked up at me, and he said, “I’m doing it. I’m doing it”. And I could see he wasn’t sure, but he was like, “F**k it, I gotta do this thing”.

At the time, she knew she was not ready for the role and turned down it. However, the Emmy-winning actress also mentioned she does not regret her move at all. The actress further went on to say:

“I think I may have sensed that I was courting that [level of fame] or I was proximate to that… and I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t want it, was just really clear about it and I wasn’t conflicted.”

The movie ultimately went on to be one of the most successful of all time, scoring $2.1billion (£1.6bn) at the box office. The movie got the 10 Oscars at the time which also included the best picture and best director for James Cameron.
