The new parents

CNN congressional correspondent, Sunlen Serfaty became a mother at the age of 36 on May 27, 2017. She delivered the baby alongside her husband Alexis Serfaty, 37.

They have named their newborn daughter Roosevelt Jolie Serfaty. Roosevelt is their first child. Their daughter’s name Roosevelt means “rose field”.

The name isn’t as presidential as it seems, but it refers to the couple’s favorite spot, Rose Park, a small green patch connecting East Georgetown and Dupont Circle in Washington.

This place is quite special for the new parents as the spot is relevant to their first meeting, to their engagement to exchanging their vows. Yes! It’s romantic!!

Came as a surprise

Earlier, she had not announced that the couple was expecting. And she did drop the baby bomb with an adorable picture of herself holding her baby daughter in the hospital bed. The new father seems to be proud and happy, gazing at his daughter.

Husband and wife

Sunlen Miller, now Sunlen Serfaty married her husband Alexis Serfaty on August 3, 2013, at Rose Park, Georgetown. They dated for years before finally tying the knot. Their daughter’s name Roosevelt means “rose field”.

Sunlen Serfaty is a national correspondent at CNN and Alexis Serfaty is the vice president and chief of staff of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council.

Sunlen first met Alexis back in the summer of 2006 at a political fundraiser program in Rose Park, Georgetown. She was 25 and he was 26 then. Alexis already knew he wanted to be with Sunlen.

He approached her and they had their first date at a restaurant, FireFly in Dupont. Sadly, the romantic couple remained estranged for over a year as Sunlen had to go away to Washington to cover Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

“I DO”

As fate would have it, Sunlen moved back and they started to date again. Things went well for them. Every relationship has its ups and downs. Sunlen and Alexis did too.

But their bond, love, and friendship were much more precious than their problems. After years of dating, “they made for each other” finally married on August 3, 2013.

Five years on, the couple is happily married and loving parents to a healthy, beautiful daughter.

The Emmy award-winning Sunlen tweeted on Twitter on 25 September 2017 with a picture of herself alongside Roosevelt Jolie Serfaty.

She stated that she is back from maternity leave. She thanked CNN for granting her leave suiting her comfort and that she has had a great summer.
