“My dad was killed by the NHS” claims Deborah the daughter of Howard Lew Lewis!
Howard Lew Lewis was a famous British comedian and actor who was known for his comic roles in Maid Marian and her Merry Men and Brush Strokes. Born in 1941, this great actor died on 20 January 2018. But there have been some legalities surrounding his death.
His medical condition
Howard was admitted to Ellen’s Glen House hospital in Edinburgh. He was diagnosed with the early stage of dementia and was fully lucid. In an interview given to Scottish Mail in late 2017, Howard had disclosed that he indeed was suffering from dementia.
Howard had one child with his spouse Anna Goodall. They share a daughter named Deborah Milazzo, 42.
The family claims he was killed by NHS
The family is upset with the happenings at the community hospital and attributes Howard’s death as being due to medicine that was given even when not indicated.
Deborah said:
“My dad was killed by the NHS. Justice needs to be done. My father kept so strong for so long and it was only the new medication that killed him.”
Deborah further added:
“My father’s death was no accident. He was hardly ill, until on December 24 when they took his insulin away and gave him that drug. Until that day he was totally lucid. But from then on in I was telling people that something was wrong, and that he was going to die unless something was done.”
Deborah alleged that no one listened to her and she had also tried talking to the local MPs on this issue but they too did not lend her an ear. She concluded:
“Now it is too late.”

What the medical hospital records state
On 24 December drugs were changed for the ill comedian. He was given sedatives and opiate painkillers. He was put on the new drug alfentanil which is an opiate with 30 times the potency of morphine. There were other drugs also on the treatment regime.
Deborah claims and is firm on the point that her father’s condition deteriorated after this new drug. She also claims to have spoken to medical experts who said opined that the drug is only reserved for patients in the terminal phase of malignant disease.
Deborah insists that her father was not terminally ill. The family members request to be told why the drug was prescribed in the first place. Deborah said:
“My father didn’t have cancer, he didn’t have heart disease. They suddenly just changed his medication and it was the new medication that killed him.”
There has been no word from the hospital authorities on this matter. But Dr. Tracey Gillies who is the medical director of the NHS Lothian Trust spoke:
“It would not be appropriate to discuss any details from his medical record. If the family have concerns or questions, they should contact us.”
Tracey feels that the relatives should have approached the hospital instead of going to the media or the police.
What legal twist took place?
The police have contacted the hospital and noted down the complaint as well as the answers of the doctors involved.
The cops have taken the death of Howard as unexplained but not suspicious. This implies that no arrests have been made so far.
