Ekuale received a scholarship to play college football for the Washington State University Cougars. At Washington State, Ekuale redshirted his first year in 2013 to adjust to college life and improve his skills. Furthermore, he made his collegiate debut in 2014, playing in 11 games as a reserve defensive lineman. Over the following seasons, Ekuale’s role on the team grew.

By his junior and senior years, Ekuale became a key player on the Cougars’ defensive line. In 2016, as a junior, he participated in all 13 games, making 23 tackles and 3 sacks.
