Daniel Giersch had been into controversy after the news of his divorce and child custody against his wife, Kelly Rutherford came out in 2015.

On December 30, 2008, his wife, filed a divorce from him while she was pregnant with Giersch’s second child. Later, the couple got into a child custody dispute over their first and second unborn child.

Their second baby, daughter Helena was born in June 2009. Though the couple got joint physical custody in August 2009, later his wife got a temporary restraining order against him.

Giersch was accused of being active in dealing drugs and weapons, so he couldn’t enter the United States and live in Monaco and France.

Later, Rutherford requested the court to allow her solo custody by ending the joint custody contract with Giersch.

While their children went to France to meet him during the summer, the children were allowed to stay longer with him as he was unable to travel to the US in August 2012.

Rutherford reported bankruptcy, saying that she is in debt of around 2 million USD, mainly because of the 1.5 million USD she finished on legal fees associated with divorce and custody disagreement with Giersch.
