David Choe Facing Online Backlash For A Resurfaced Interview Where He Describes Sexually Assaulting A Massage Therapist!
David Choe described sexually assaulting a masseuse in an interview in 2014
Fans of the popular Netflix series ‘Beef’ have expressed concern after a clip from an old podcast featuring actor David Choe discussing his encounter with a massage therapist resurfaced.
Choe, who plays Issak in the show, made disturbing comments about sexually assaulting the masseuse in the clip, which investigative journalist Aura Bogado shared on Twitter.
The actor, 46, admitted to touching the masseuse without her consent and forcing her to perform oral sex on him. The podcast episode was originally released in March 2014.
The episode has been deleted since. He described his experience:
“It’s dangerous and it’s super self-destructive. I’m at a place and there’s potential for a lawsuit… and she has given me no signs that she’s into me or that this is appropriate behavior.”
He continued,
“So I go back to the chill method of you never ask first, you just do it, get in trouble and then pay the price later.”
Following that, he went into detail about the incident:
“She’s definitely not into it, but she’s not stopping it either. I say, ‘Kiss it a little,’ she says, ‘No, all the massage oil is on it,’ and I take the back of her head and I push it down on my d*** and she doesn’t do it. And I say, ‘Open your mouth, open your mouth,’ and she does it and I start face-fu***** her.”
Choe’s co-hosts and guests on the show joked along and asked him to describe the masseuse’s appearance. When Asa Akira called him a “rapist,” he referred to himself as a “successful rapist.”

Choe has apologized several times and said it was a joke
David Choe has issued several apologies for his comments and has claimed that the story was a joke. After facing major backlash, in April 2014, he issued an apology statement:
“If I am guilty of anything, it’s bad storytelling in the style of douche. Just like many of my paintings are often misinterpreted, the same goes with my show.”
Following this, he issued another apology in 2017 on Instagram:
“In a 2014 episode of DVDASA, I relayed a story simply for shock value that made it seem as if I had sexually violated a woman. Though I said those words, I did not commit those actions. It did not happen.”
He continued:
“I am deeply sorry for any hurt I’ve brought to anyone through my past words. Non-consensual sex is rape and it is never funny or appropriate to joke about.”

Choe addressed the controversy again in 2021 with The New York Times, and said that he felt motivated to tell the story by a “morbid curiosity to feel an external response to the internal shame I felt.”
He also opened up about being sexually abused in the past and growing up in poverty and claimed that the studios were concerned that he was “getting canceled.”
He continued:
“I don’t know if I’ve said anything to you right now that I’m going to get canceled for, so I just assume any time I do anything, the haters come out. If you want to come and try to cancel me, that’s OK… I don’t live in fear.”
