Who is Dawa Yangzum Sherpa?
Dawa Yangzum Sherpa is a professional female mountaineering, mountain guide, and high-altitude long-distance runner from Nepal.
She is the first female to become an international mountain guide from Nepal. Sherpa is one of the two female guides with IFMGA certification in Asia.

In 2008, Dawa started working as a trekking guide. The following year, he began climbing and made her first summit of Yala Peak. She also lived life as an Ultra Trail runner and was runner-up at the Everest Sky Race. In 2011, she became a runner-up in Nepal’s National Climbing Competition.
While training at Khumbu Climbing Centre, she was selected by its co-founder, legendary alpinist, Conrad Anker, to join a 2012 National Geographic-The North Face Expedition to climb Everest to mark the 50th anniversary of the first American summits. She then became one of the first female Sherpas, or Sherpanis, to guide on the Nepal side of the world’s tallest peak. Sherpa was certified by the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association in 2017.
The same year, she qualified to become an international mountain guide. On May 29, 2019, Sherpa climbed the fifth highest peak Makalu, and became the first female Nepali woman to summit it. Similarly, she was part of the female team that summited k2 along with Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita and Maya Sherpa on July 26, 2014. Furthermore, she has climbed Ama Dablam and attempted the 28,169-foot Kangchenjunga.
