American reality TV stars, Deon Derrico and his wife of nearly twenty years, Karen Carter have filed for divorce and finalized it.

Deon Derrico and Karen Carter are stars of the TLC show, Doubling down with the Derricos. The show is all about the struggles of these parents who reside in Las Vegas, Nevada in the USA. Deon is a real estate dealer and has a total of 15 living children to take care of. He shares 14 of these kids with his wife while he has adopted one.

TMZ reported on 14 June 2024 that Karen Carter and Deon Derrico have filed for divorce in the court on 4 June 2024. They also quickly finalized on the divorce settlement by 6 June 2024.

As per the divorce settlement, the two would take equal legal and physical custody of their 13 minor children. Two of the children are adults already. Moreover, Deon would pay Karen USD 1166 per month in child support allowance. However, Karen will have to take care of the medical insurance of her children.

The relationship timeline of the couple

Deon was born on 16 September 1970, while Karen’s date of birth is stated as 26 February 1980. The two supposedly wed in 2005. But no marriage record exists of their wedding. Moreover, an article in a newspaper in 2008 referred to Karen as Deon’s girlfriend.

Deon has revealed that during the courtship period when he asked Karen as to how many children she wanted, she had replied:

“However many God will give me.”

Deon was happy with her answer and knew that she was the one he wanted to spend his life with.

Their marriage is controversial and in between 2011 and 2013, the pair had split without divorce. They were also living separately at that time.

Children of the couple

Deon met an orphan boy in 2002 in Detroit. The boy, Jasper was born in August 1991 and was in foster care. Deon adopted him legally in 2005 and changed his name to Derron. Derron is married with children. He does not appear on the show and is estranged from the family.

The couple had fifteen babies out of six pregnancies. On 9 December 2005, Karen delivered daughter Darian. After four and half years, on 18 July 2010, their son Derrick arrived. This was followed by twin boys Denver and Dallas who were born on 9 October 2011.

Later, on 6 September 2013, Karen delivered quintuplets: two boys and three daughters. They were not the result of IVF. They are Denico, Dariz, Deonee, Daician, and Dayton who were all 32 weeks preterm babies. On 23 May 2017, Karen had triplets, all boys: Diez, Dior, Carter. They were 28 weeks premature and sadly Carter died soon after birth.

On 6 July 2019, Karen had another set of triplets: Dawsyn, De’Aren, and Dyver. She suffered two miscarriages after that: in late 2020 and November 2021.

Karen claims to have breastfed all her children except Dawysn who was critically ill after birth and on intragastric feeding due to it.

Deon’s mother, GG who has a home in Detroit and nannies helped the parents in rearing their babies.

Deon was in legal tangles for welfare fraud, identity fraud, and real estate fraud.
