Divorce photography: the new trend in Mainland China!
Until now, weddings were considered joyous moments while divorce was included in the sad time of life. But no more. There are increasingly many couples in the world who celebrate divorce and the newly-found freedom after that. Special photographers are hired for divorce photography.
The changing trend of marriages and divorce
Marriages are coming together of two individuals. No doubt, this coupling is a moment of joy for everyone. But, it comes with its own limitations and baggage.
Separation and divorce is uncoupling and supposedly a sad moment. However, increasingly couples have begun to celebrate divorce as a moment of freedom. Divorce photography is a new entity that has come into existence.

Its demand is on the rise in Mainland China. Photographers reveal that they are getting more requests for photo shoots of the divorce moments.
What is divorce photography?
Divorce photography is filming the final divorce moments. Professional photographers are invited to do this. This is in keeping with the changing societal attitudes where divorce is no more a subject of taboo. People are openly talking about it.
Photographers are also promising full documentation of this process for a fee. This feeling may be from 1800 yuan (around 249 USD) or more. Despite the high cost, the demand remains high.

In this photography, the stark realities of life are captured. The emotions during those moments of separation are immortalized in print.
Zhiwei is one such divorce photographer who revealed that after he posted his first video of the divorce shoot online, he received a lot of demands for it. This demand was even more than wedding shoots. He aims to portray the real emotions that the parties involved undergo during the separation.
Is this trend good?
Whether the trend is good or bad depends on how a person looks at it. There are some who want to preserve those moments that remind them about how they felt during their last divorce. Some are happy with the divorce and hence wants to have those memories preserved in the film form.
Despite the high demand, there is yet no such label as a professional divorce photographer. It is the regular photographer who is hired for documentation of the divorce process as well.

But maybe, as time goes by, there might be a specialist divorce photographer who might be specially called in for filming the divorce process. At that time, the fees charged might be even higher.

However, the trend can have its side effects as well. It might recreate the bad moments and give sadness to those who view those photos or videos in later life. It might bring in feeling of remorse and regret.
Photographer Zhiwei warns that this new concept should not be sensationalized. According to him, he has seen some couples separating but with feelings of regrets. These emotions are captured on camera. These couples still have feelings for each other. The whole atmosphere at that particular time becomes gloomy and heavy. This affects even the photographer and can stress the person filming the event.
