Amicable, The dream of divorcing couples: an online lawyer-free divorce service!
- During the lockdown, high street legal divorce services were unavailable.
- But now after the easing of lockdown, divorce filing inquiries have increased by 200%.
- Besides this, Britishers also want to settle their divorce amicably and without a lawyer.
Considering this, Amicable Company has enhanced the investor funding to help such couples get divorced with minimal money.
Amicable company and its online divorce services
Amicable is an online service that helps divorced couples draft their own divorce documents without the help of lawyers.
This company has now received a new round of funding in order to increase the number of people that it can help. Existing and new angel investors have raised this by £488,000.
A divorce counselor and a tech specialist together had set up this firm. The aim was to assist separating couples in parting ways in an amicable manner and at a low cost.
They want to help couples save thousands of pounds which they would otherwise give as legal fees to lawyers.
More about Amicable’s online services
The firm has various software to assist the couple in formulating their own divorce papers. They also provide a divorce coach who helps both parties to agree amicably on their financial, property, and children arrangements. They do the legal documents and also court correspondence for them.
Additionally, there is a free app that helps with financial and parenting plans. Alex, an artificial intelligence-driven chatbot and an online customer dashboard provides 24/7 support. There was some controversy in between about this company.
Some people stated that the firm was breaking conflict of interest rules by acting on behalf of both the husband and the wife.
But a High Court Judge has ruled in favor of the company and said that no such rules were broken. The Judge further added that the Legal Services Act is also safe when the firm provides advice and drafts a couple of documents.
Praise for Amicable’s working
Mr. Justice Mostyn had given a rather unusual ruling. Mostyn said:
“Amicable has greatly improved access to justice for many people disenfranchised by the removal of legal aid.”
The Chief executive and co-founder Pip Wilson stated:
“There is no doubt there is public appetite for a new way of managing divorce and separation, and amicable offers exactly this.”
“The funding will provide huge opportunities to grow the amicable team, while also helping advance our tech capabilities which will result in us being able to help thousands of more people to separate amicably.”
Pip continued:
“We have always blended the technology and human aspect of our service and this is a continued focus for the future. The funding will help to make our technology smarter and faster while also maintaining the excellent service we pride ourselves on.”
She feels that the new no-fault divorce would greatly assist their desire to change the divorce process from the current one of tension and acrimony to that of collaboration and understanding.
Pip concluded:
“It will allow couples to have kinder, more amicable divorces”,
