Edward Enninful Announces Retirement as British Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief!

Edward Enninful steps away as editor-in-chief of British Vogue
Edward Enninful is retiring from his job as the editor-in-chief of the UK’s fashion magazine Vogue on Friday.
But this will not end his career with Vogue as he will now serve as an editorial advisor for the fashion Bible and a global creative and cultural adviser for Vogue.
In an internal memo to the heads of the editorial content at Vogue from multiple nations, Enninful and Anna Wintour said that they “have been discussing how I can play a broader role in enhancing Vogue globally.”
He added,
“I am excited to share that from next year I will be stepping into the newly appointed position of editorial advisor of British Vogue and global creative and cultural advisor of Vogue,”
Edward expressed his happiness about his new position saying that it will provide him “the freedom to take on broader creative projects.”
The Ghanaian-British designer who had a successful career at Conde for over 25 years shared that he is thinking of hiring a head of editorial content for British Vogue.
Enninful who has many high-profile friends in the industry often made headlines for expressing his views on the fashion industry.
In November 2021, the former EIC appeared on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast saying, “There’s a misconception that fashion people don’t eat, but that’s not true.”
The 51-year-old stylist addressed issues on the pages of the famed fashion magazine and said,
“When you look at, at least, my Vogue anyway, everybody’s welcome. All shapes, all sizes, all colors.”

During his tenure, Edward Enninful was the force behind many successful covers like Selma Blair with her cane amid her sclerosis battle, Rihanna alongside Asap Rocky and their sin, and Timothee Chalamet being the first male to be on the cover of the magazine.
Enninful also created history by becoming the first black editor of the glossy magazine.
He was born on 22 February 1972 in Ghana and was the fifth child of six. His dad was Ghana Army officer Major Crosby Enninful.
Apart from Vogue, he is also the editorial director of Conde Nast.
He was just 18 when he got appointed as the fashion director of the British fashion magazine i-D.
He held the position for more than two decades. It made him the youngest-ever fashion director for a foreign publication.
On his 50th birthday in February 2022, Edward tied the knot with his long-time partner Alec Maxwell in Wiltshire.
He published his memoir A Visible Man in September 2022.
