On January 23, a woman named Philomena Sheahan accused him of raping her. She claimed in an interview with TMZ that the wrestler raped her in Phoenix, Arizona in a hotel room on October 19, 2017. Due to the allegations, he lost his contract with WWE and the Cruiserweight Championship.

He denied all the allegations made against him and the police also ceased their investigation due to insufficient evidence.
