Britain’s Loneliest Sheep finally gets a home

A sheep who was dubbed as Britain’s Loneliest Sheep has been rescued.

BBC reported that the sheep who is named Fiona was rescued on Saturday after being left alone at the foot of a cliff in Scotland for more than two years.

The outlet confirmed that there were protests over Fiona’s move to a farm. However,  she was moved to Dalscone Farm in Dumfries on Sunday and is in good condition.

Farmer Ben Best of Dalscone Farm told the BBC,

“She has settled in absolutely brilliantly,”

“She has been eating, drinking.”

Just a month ago, kayaker Jilian Turner saw Fiona with an enormous fleece on the shores of Cromarty Firth in the Scottish Highlands.

This happened exactly two years after some people spotted the sheep in the exact same location two years ago.

Turner, who contacted many organizations to help the sheep, told the Northern Times,

“About half a mile before turning into the Cromarty Firth, we spotted a sheep on a shingle beach at the bottom of some steep, rocky coastline,”

“She saw us coming and was calling to us along the length of the beach, following our progress until she could go no further. She finally turned back, looking defeated.”

Where is Fiona now?

Over 50,000 people signed a petition fighting for the sheep’s rescue on Charge.org. But, as per CBC Radio, Fiona’s owner, the Coast Guard, and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals denied the rescue operation, saying that her position was too risky to reach.

However, that didn’t stop a group of five farmers including YouTuber Graeme Parker, James Parker, Cammy Wilson, Als Couzens, and Ally Williamson from deciding to create a plan to rescue the stranded sheep.

Wilson admitted that after finding out about Fiona, he contacted her owner about a rescue. The owner said that it would be way too dangerous and life-risky to get the animal up the cliff.

Wilson thought, ”What crazy people do I know that would come and take a little risk with me?”

The five brave farmers used an all-terrain vehicle with a winch to lower themselves down the cliffside. The journey took over 3781 feet to bring the sheep back with them.

Parker told CBC Radio,

“We weren’t exactly sure what we were going to find when we got there. All we had to go on was drone footage,”

“When we got down there, sure enough, Fiona was … right in the middle of the cave in a little patch of sunlight that’s coming through a craggy hole in the ceiling of the cave.”

After the rescue, Wilson revealed that Fiona would live alone in a pen for days before she started mixing up with other animals.
