One of the highest profit-earning sequels, The Fate of the Furious, is expected to earn around $35.5 to $36 million domestically. The worldwide box office result of this weekend in the neighboring countries is estimated to be $912 million and it is said to touch $1 billion by early next week.

It has beaten the global records held by Disney (DIS)’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which made $529 million on its worldwide opening weekend in the year 2015.

Fate Of The Furious is the seventh installment in the Fast And Furious franchise. It is the first film without Paul Walker and the kick-off to the series’ final trilogy. The movie led once again by Vin Diesel, sped up the box office chart last weekend. It debuted with roughly $100 million.

For its second weekend, grosses are dropping by more than 60 percent, but Fate is still doing a few laps around the competition.

With $36 million, it should easily hang on to first place, while Boss Baby will likely take second again with around $11.5 million. Again repeating last week’s rankings, Beauty And The Beast has a lock on third with $9.4 million.

Going In Style, directed by Zach Braff, is eyeing $4.7 million for the number four spot, but after that, all of this weekend’s new releases are duking it out with some oldies for the following slots.

Katherine Heigl and Rosario Dawson’s new thriller Unforgettable is looking at a haul of $4.6 million, but so is holdover Gifted and new documentary Born In China. It’s unclear at this point which flick will fall where when it comes to the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions.

Even eighth place, right now occupied by Smurfs: The Lost Village with $4.4 million, could get swapped with any of the aforementioned flicks.

And The Promise, another newbie, isn’t all that far behind with a projected debut of $4.1 million, putting it in ninth place. Just making it into the Top 10 maybe The Lost City Of Z, starring Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson.

For its first weekend in wide release, the adventure epic is up approximately 1,800 percent and on track to bring in $2.1 million.

Breaking Record on other Countries

China is a growing movie market and this movie has crossed all the records in China as well. It has also become China’s biggest opening of all time.

The record-breaking weekend of “Fate of the Furious” is good news for the future of the 16-year-old series. The sponsors, Universal studios have already announced a ninth and tenth sequel for 2019 and 2021.

Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst at ComScore says,

“This is an astonishing feat for a decade and a half old franchise that launched as a marginalized car culture movie with no stars and no imaginings of a long-term franchise future.”

Like past F&F movies, this one will likely drop about 63% stateside. That means that the international audiences will be in the driver’s seat.

The Fate of the Furious has, however, already out-grossed the international lifetime totals of the first six Fast & Furious films: The Fast and the Furious $62.9M; 2 Fast 2 Furious $109.1M; The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift$96M; Fast & Furious $208.3M; Fast Five $418.5M and Fast & Furious 6 $553.7M.
