Jimmy Carter has some beautiful words to say about his late wife Rosalynn Carter.
The former U.S. President reflected on their decades of friendship and marriage after she passed away on Sunday afternoon in her longtime Plains, Georgia home. She was 96.
A news release from the Carter Center revealed that the former First Lady died “peacefully, with her family by her side.”
In a statement released by the former President, 99, he said,
“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”
In May, Mrs. Carter was diagnosed with dementia and entered hospice care on Friday. Jimmy, for his part, terminated medical intervention in February amid his own health battles. Currently, he remains in hospice care at home.
The pair who tied the knot in 1946, welcomed sons John William, James Earl, Donnel Jeffrey, and daughter Amy Carter. They also had 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Many citizens including NYC Mayor Eric Adams paid their tributes to the amazing lady on Sunday. He tweeted,
“First Lady Rosalynn Carter lived a life of faith, service and decency. Her passing is a loss for our country.”
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I offer our condolences to President Carter, the Carter family and all who knew and loved her.”

What were Rosalynn Carter’s achievements during her First Lady tenure?
Rosalynn fully supported her husband when his political career took off, serving as his staunch advocate and adviser. Later she dedicated her life to promoting mental wellness.
During Jimmy’s tenure as President from 1977 to 1981, Rosalynn was the honorary chair of the President’s Commission on Mental Health. She successfully helped usher through the 1980 passage of the Mental Health Systems Act. She was also a champion of arts and arts programs.
The Georgia native also founded the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers in 1987.
The couple who had the longest marriage in U.S. presidential history. The sweet couple coined a sweet phrase they shared with each other: ”ILYTG”
The nation’s 39th president told People back in 2014,
“‘I love you the goodest.’ That’s what my mother and daddy used to say back and forth, and I picked it up with Rosa,”
“Now all our children do the same thing – ILYTG on the phone or in emails. They generally just put the initials.”
In the White House, Rosalynn was given the nickname “the Steel Magnolia” for her strong yet gentle nature as a woman and the First Lady.
