Gallup poll reveals that more than one-third of Americans do not want to take the COVID-19 vaccine even if it is free and approved by FDA!
- Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the infectious team in the USA, updated the people on the status of the COVID-19 vaccine.
- As cases in the USA continue to soar, the vaccine has entered into clinical trials.
- Dr. Anthony also stated that the vaccine has proven 50% efficacy.
The Gallup poll showed that more than a third of the American population will not take the vaccine even if it is provided for free to them.
The results of a new Gallup poll
The COVID-19 vaccine is now in clinical trials in the USA. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the American infectious team for advice on COVID-19 revealed that the vaccine would be ready by the start of 2021.
He also stated that the vaccine when tested was found to have an efficacy of around 50%. This means that out of 100 people who receive the vaccine, 50 people would remain vulnerable to the disease despite taking the vaccine.
A new Gallup poll showed that even if the vaccine is available free and FDA-approved, more than a third of the people would prefer to not take it.
More on the survey results
The survey also showed that there was a wide difference in political party affiliation in deciding whether a person would take the vaccine or not.
81% of Democrats would go for the vaccine while only 47% of Republicans would opt for it.
The White Americans were more willing to take the vaccine than the non-white citizens of the USA; 67% vs 59%. This is despite the fact that the non-white class is more affected by COVID-19.
The US government put in $ 10 billion for Operation Warp Speed in which around 300 million doses of the vaccine would reach the people by January 2021. They have also given funding to several companies to boost vaccine development.
Is vaccine a magical bullet?
People worldwide are looking at the arrival of the vaccine as if it will save them completely from the virus. But while speaking at the Brown University School of Public Health, Dr. Anthony reiterated that the vaccine against COVID-19 is not a cure-all.
He said:
“We don’t know yet what the efficacy might be. We don’t know if it will be 50% or 60%. I’d like it to be 75% or more. But the chances of it being 98% effective is not great, which means you must never abandon the public health approach.”
And our Dr. Know-it-all, Mr. Donald Trump said that he is optimistic that before the Election Day on 3 November 2020.
He was talking from his golf club in Bedminster New Jersey:
“We’ll develop a vaccine. We’re going to have it very soon and we’re ready to distribute it. We’ve got the military ready, logistics it’s called. And we’ll end this pandemic and we will rebuild the greatest economy in the history of the world,”
But no one has really talked about the safety of this vaccine and whether any untoward immunological disasters may occur during or after the administration of the new vaccine.
