George Maharis is no longer alive among us. The actor, best known for his role as the charismatic Buz Murdock in Rout 66, took his last breath on Wednesday, May 25.
He was 94. His death was confirmed by his friend Marc Bahan with a heartbreaking post on Facebook.
“George Maharis passed away on Wednesday, May 25. George is well known fro his stardom in route 66, stage productions, singing, artist, and above all a great guy would do anything for anyone. My dear friend, you’ll be terribly missed.”

Maharis died peacefully at his home in Beverly Hills, California, after contracting hepatitis.

Maharis was one of seven children, born on September 1, 1928, in Astoria, Queens. He had developed an interest in acting at a young age. Maharis even took acting classes at the Actors Studio alongside his friends and fellow actors Sanford Meisner and Lee Strasberg.
Acting career
Prior to appearing in television, he acted in off-Broadway production including the first US production, The Zoo Story by Edward Albee.
Similarly, he appeared in various television series including Studio One, Kraft Television Theater, Goodyear Television Playhouse, Stirling Sillliphant’s Naked City, Ott Preminger’s Exodus, and more.
The late actor got his career breakthrough from his role in Route 66 where he appeared in 82 episodes.
Besides, he worked in several films including Quick, Before It Melts (1964), The Satan Big and Sylvia (1968), A Covenant with Death and The Happing (1967), and The Desperados (1969).
Music career
Besides acting, he was passionate about music. He released a number of albums and singles through Epic Records earlier in his career.
His hits include “Teach Me Tonight,” which peaked at number 25 in June 1962. Further, he also performed in nightclubs.
