RIP Gordon Lightfoot! Canadian Folk Singer dies at age 84

Gordon Lightfoot is no longer alive among us
Gordon Lightfoot, a legendary folk singer-songwriter from Canada, passed away. The folk music icon took his last breath on Monday, May 1.
His death was confirmed by his longtime publicist Victoria Lord that Lightfoot died of natural causes at 7:30 p.m. at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. However, the cause of his death hasn’t yet been disclosed.
As soon as his death was confirmed many took to social media platforms to outpour tributes and condolences to the beloved musician Gordon Lightfoot.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted,
“We have lost one of our greatest singer-songwriters, Gordon Lightfoot captured our country’s spirit in his music – and in doing so, he helped shape Canada’s soundscape.”
“May his music continue to inspire future generations, and may his legacy live on forever. To his family, friends, and many fans across the country and around the world: I’m keeping you in my thoughts at this difficult time.”

Gordon is survived by his third wife Kim Hasse, six children, and several grandchildren.
The tragic death news comes less than a month after Lightfoot canceled his US and Canada concert scheduled for 2023.
On April, 11, Lord issued a statement on Facebook where he said that the singer canceled the event due to his “health-related issues”.
Further, there is not much detail shared regarding his health condition, and had asked for privacy until his recovery period.
The music world has lost one of the gems of the industry
Gordon, full name Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr., was a Canadian singer-songwriter, and guitarist. He was best known for his soothing style and stirring lyrics that told tales of Canadian identity.
He contributed more than six decades in this industry and throughout his career he recorded 20 studio albums and wrote hundreds of songs. Similarly, he performed in more than 1,500 concerts and recorded 500 songs.
He rose to prominence in the mid-1970s when both his single and album Sundown topped the Billboard charts. In 1971, he made his first appearance on the Billboard chart with If You Could Read My Mind which reached number 5.
In 2020, his documentary, “Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind” was also released that featured all of his life and legacy.
