Another gray divorce of a celebrity! Puerto Rican singer, Daddy Yankee, 47 has separated from his wife of 29 years, Mireddys González, 47 and filed for divorce from her.
Daddy Yankee files for divorce
It is the end of another long-standing marital relationship. Puerto Rican singer and rapper, Daddy Yankee, 47 is divorcing his wife of 29 years, Mireddys González, also 47. Daddy revealed this sad news on Monday 2nd December 2024 on his social media.
He wrote in Spanish language on his Instagram Stories:
“With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life.”
He continued:
“After more than two decades of marriage and after many months of trying to save my marriage, which my wife and I share, today my lawyers responded to the divorce petition received from Mireddys.”
Mireddys made the first legal move towards the separation. The couple was trying to salvage their marriage for many years but it did not help. It has reached a point of irreparability. Daddy respects his wife’s decision and move. He added:
“I appreciate the time we shared, full of blessings and values, of love and with a beautiful family that will continue to be our priority.”
“This is not an easy time, but I understand that it is part of my life process.”
“I deeply thank those who have accompanied us during this journey and I ask that you respect our privacy in this process.”
“I know that this news may surprise many.”
‘Thank you for your unconditional support. This will be my only statement.”
The relationship of the couple
The couple knew each other since their teens. When Daddy was 17, the two decided to exchange wedding vows. This was in 1995. Their first child, daughter Yamilette Ayala González arrived the same year. She is 29 years old now.
In 1996, their second child was born. It was daughter Jesaaelys 28 and in 1997, their third offspring, son Jeremy, 26 was delivered.
Mireddys was the rapper’s manager and held the post of the CEO of El Cartel Records since 1997.
Daddy retired last year in December to focus on Christianity.
After the rapper retired, Mireddys was happy and eagerly looking forward to get more quality time with her husband. She wrote on her social media at that time:
“Today I have mixed feelings, I am HAPPY and SAD.”
“As we celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary, I hear you tell the WORLD that you are retiring from MUSIC that has been your passion for these last three decades.”
Daddy Yankee’s career
Daddy’s father was a salsa percussion player. Daddy, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, aspired to become a professional baseball player. But he suffered an accidental bullet injury in his hip.
Daddy had to take treatment for nearly one year for it. But this pause from sports helped him to concentrate on his singing career.
Daddy’s first hit came in 2004 with the song Gasolina. It gave him popularity. After that, Daddy did not look back. He is the best-selling Latin music singer and has 30 million record sales to his credit. He pushed reggaeton genre to a global fame. Hence, he got the nickname of the King of reggaeton.
