Meet Gupi or Spencer Hawk! He is electronic pop producer and son of legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk!
- His father is legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk.
- Spencer Hawk or Gupi as he is famously called is an aspiring music pop producer who has landed several great contracts for music this year.
- He is the son of Tony with his second wife Erin Lee.
Gupi and his family
Spencer Hawk or Gupi is the second child of professional skateboarder Tony Hawk. Tony is famous for the first 900 or 2.5 (900 degrees) revolutions aerial spin.
He won several contests and many game videos in his name. Gupi’s mother is Erin Lee and he was born on 26 March 1999.
He has a younger biological sister named Keegan and she was born on 18 July 2001. He has two stepsiblings; Riley and Kadence.
His parents married in 1996 but divorced in the year 2004. Riley is the son of his father Tony with his first wife Cindy Dunbar. While Kadence is the daughter of Tony with his third wife Lhotse Merriam.
Gupi’s pre-formative days
Gupi had an inclination towards music. This was unlike his father and elder stepbrother who are both into skateboarding. But luckily for him, both his parents are highly supportive of him in his career choice.
He is privileged to have a celebrity father. But he did not use his father’s name to enter the arena of music. He did it on his own credit and abilities.
Spencer said:
“I try to make a very large point of not at all involving my dad, just name-wise or financial-wise, in any of my music things. Because I don’t feel accomplished otherwise. It’s just so disingenuous and takes away from the point to begin with, which is the music.”
He adds:
“I want people to know me for me and not as Tony Hawk’s son. Because that’s just been my whole life and I try to not let it drive me as crazy as it does because I know where other people are coming from. But it does get to me a little bit.”
Gupi’s shot to fame in the music
Gupi does like to skate. He did it as a child and now as a recreational tool. But his passion is music and had learned guitar from his childhood days. He was with his high school band.
Now, he is a student at Berklee College of Music and enjoys Sonic The Hedgehog, Skrillex, fast food items. He also likes filming himself around Boston for music videos.
He is into hyper electronic music and is very good at it. Charli XCX heard it and liked it, immediately signed Gupi to Dog Show Records of Dylan Brady.
Praising Skrillex, he says:
“Skrillex is still a huge inspiration,. Not even his new s**t but his older things. Listening back to, like, Rock ‘N’ Roll (Will Take You To The Mountain) and Kill EVERYBODY… I still don’t know how to make a song like [that].
“I can’t even compare it to anything today. Not even dubstep today. Some of the songs, there are dubstep elements but they’re not dubstep. It’s like crazy rave, electronic whatever – sort of what I’m trying to make.”
