His life in a nutshell! John Goodman’s career heights, ebbs of life and cataract surgery!
- John Goodman, the notable actor of the USA is set to do a comeback in Roseanne’s reboot.
- His character of Dan Conner is supposed to have died in the finale of the show.
- But we are told that John Goodman is very much a part of the reboot.
The series is being filmed and the trailer promo is also out! The promo shows John Goodman as Dan and Lecy Goranson as Becky watching a basketball match on TV. Wow, so John Goodman’s character is not dead. But how would the producers and writers revive him!
Without revealing the secret, John had told ABC News last June:
“I don’t know. I think they’re just going to ignore it.”
John Goodman talked about the first day of the shoot. He excitedly said:
“It was exactly like we took a week off and came back to it, and the effect was so strange that it was remarkable. The first time I went on the set, the hair on my arm stood up because it was like they sucked me right back in.”
He was eager to do it again. The series will debut on 27 March 2018.

His life until now
John Goodman had humble beginnings being born in St.Louis in 1952 to a waitress mother and a postman father. Tragedy struck their family when his father died when John was just 2 years old.
He liked and played football in school and college. But he liked acting and was good at it. He had no plan B in case his acting career did not take off.
He did not have to struggle and was able to pick up his films. Likewise, he did commercials, Broadway, TV, and films. He had variety and enjoyed it. His career picked up to rewarding heights with the Roseanne series on TV in 1988.
The negative side
John was successful in his life but his social life was facing problems. He indulged in heavy drinking. Opening up about those dreadful days, John said:
“It was getting to be too much. It was 30 years of a disease that was taking its toll on everyone around me and it had got to the point where, every time I did it, it was becoming more and more debilitating. It was life or death. It was time to stop.”
Alcohol was debilitating him. It affected his work, his temperament, and memory, and led to depression. It was time to tackle it and he did it and came out well. But in spite of all this, his co-stars love him.
Roseanne Barr heaps of praise for him:
“John is the funniest and deepest actor in the world. He has only gotten more open, more sweet, more expansive and giving, on-screen and off, if that were possible, since the Roseanne show.”
The health concerns in between
John had a left arthritis-affected knee for which he had to seek repair measures. In 2013, he also admitted that he is taking some time off to deal with his eye problems. He had vision problems in the form of a cataract for which surgery was indicated.
A Cataract is an opacification of the eye lens. It mostly happens due to age but some may be due to other extraneous factors such as congenital infections, prolonged sunlight exposure, and alcohol.
It leads to a diminished vision which develops slowly over time. The only treatment is to have the clouded lens surgically and replace it with an artificial lens.
