He went to William Howard Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California. He sold his first song to future N.W.A member Eazy-E when he was 16 years old. In the fall of 1987, he enrolled at the Phoenix Institute of Technology in Arizona after graduating from high school. He studied architectural drafting and completed his diploma within a year. However, Eazy-E went on to record the song for “N.W.A and the Posse,” the group’s debut album, which also featured Dr. Dre, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and Ice Cube. Ice Cube wrote the rhymes and half the lyrics for Dr. Dre and Eazy-breakthrough E’s album, “Straight Outta Compton,” released in 1988. However, he received only $32,000 in compensation for his contributions. Ice Cube left the N.W.A. after disagreements over his pay and official contracts with the group could not be resolved.
