Incredible Graveyard Of 5000-Year-Old ‘Giants’ Found In China; The ‘Giants’ Would Have Towered Above Their Contemporaries

The Discovery of Graveyard

Recently the burying ground of ‘giants’ has been discovered in Jiaojia village close to Jinan town in Shandong province, of China.

Many of the lads discovered within the burying ground measured 1.8 meters (5 feet 11 inches) tall and would have looked like giants to the common person 5,000 years ago. One in them even measured 1.9 meters (6 feet 3 inches), making him a ‘giant’ of his day.

Though not notably uncommon by 21st-century Western standards, it’s thought their height would have seen them tower over several of their contemporaries.

“This is just based on the bone structure. If he was a living person his height would certainly exceed 1.9 meters,”

Head of Shandong University’s school of history and culture, Fang Hui, told China Daily.

Larger graves held the remains of taller men, possibly indicative of their superior social status and access to better food.

So, What Made Them Tall?

But what made them that tall even at that time? Fang Hui explains,

“Already agricultural at that time, people had diverse and rich food resources and thus their physique changed.”

The people in the region largely lived off a diet consisting of pigs and millet.

Locals in Shandong see their height as a shaping characteristic of them. Even today, men aged eighteen living within the region have a median height of 1.753 meters (5 feet 9 inches), that is above the national average of 1.72 meters (5 feet 8 inches), as per a study of 2015.

Confucius, who was born in what’s currently the Shandong province, was also reportedly 1.9 m tall.

The Excavation

Archaeologists have discovered a variety of artifacts at the location from the Longshan Culture, known for its natural covering black pottery, from the Neolithic amount since last year.

They began excavating the ruins of 104 homes, 25 graves, and 20 sacrificial pits within the village last year, China Daily reports. A variety of colorful pots and jade articles were recovered from the sites, jointly.

The individuals living in the region 5,000 years ago. They believed to have had comparatively snug lives. The homes with separate bedrooms and kitchens were excavated to have rows, as reported by China Daily.
