Is Socceroos coach, Ange Postecoglou’s career ending? Confusion crops up after Ange gives contradictory statements about his contract with the Australian National soccer team!
- Ange Postecoglou is one of those people doing the job of the highest responsibility by training the national representatives of football.
- A question seems to have disturbed Ange and the football fans after the unclear declaration about his leave from the national team.
There was a question for the 52-year-old regarding when his contract with the national team ended. Sorry for the curious heads but there wasn’t a clear answer from the coach.
However, he made it clear that he may stay with the team as long as it is a part of the FIFA World Cup.
Is Ange Postecoglou leaving or not?
Postecoglou was repeatedly questioned about the end of his journey with the team in ABC’s Australian Story on Monday night.
There was quite a stir among the football supporters after there was news that Ange would be leaving the team soon after the end of Australia’s final World Cup qualification play-off against Honduras on November 6 and November 14.
Maybe that is why everyone’s curiosity grew to another level. But, Ange sure wanted to increase his curiosity by giving irrelevant replies making him receive huge criticisms from people.
The news about Ange stopping to coach the team just after the qualifying game was a problem as well. After all, it can take several months to get a new coach for the team.
Postecoglou was asked about his plans after the World Cup qualification match that will soon happen in November and to this, he replied by talking about celebrating the moment:
“Hopefully to celebrate. Because if not, my tenure ends.”
If not, my tenure ends. Uh-uh! Does that mean that if the Socceroos win, he will be celebrating and if not, he has nothing to do but leave? It suggests that.
To make it clear to the viewers, he was again asked if he would stay for the World Cup, and he said:
“Well, I think I’ve already answered that.”
He also shared his thoughts about how people keep talking about unusual things when they should be focused on the game.
“People are really worried about my future — they should be worried about these two games. But they’re not. They just want an answer to a question and I’m not going to give them it.”
He is just indirectly telling people to stop meddling in his business. Simplifying the things he said, he meant:
“I will leave when it’s the end. Talk about football!”
He also added that the qualification match was much more important for him rather than his future.
“We’ve got an absolutely crucial couple of games coming up and I’ll have literally two training sessions with the players.”
It is crucial actually. The biggest football match and the pressure have surely gone down Postecoglou with the addition of his job at stake.
“My whole focus and everything I’ll be doing is to make sure that we get the job done. I want us to qualify for another World Cup. I still believe we’re on track.”
‘Don’t worry’ says the FFA boss
But, the FFA boss has brought some relaxation to the fans by saying that even if Ange is to be out of the association, they will soon find a new coach. It won’t affect the team.
David Gallop, the head of Football Federation Australia, said:
“People move. We’ll adjust to that I’m sure. The Socceroos don’t play again until March, so we’ve got a relatively long stretch of inactivity. That will give us an opportunity to make a decision with Ange about the future.”
But still hiring a new coach in a rush will be a problem no matter what.

Peter Sterling’s opinion
The topic of Ange being taken out of his position spread more fire after Australian Rugby legend, Peter Sterling raised the question to Ange relating to the confusing interview.
Peter said:
“I’m a fan of Postecoglou. I really am. I have been all along. I didn’t see that as a facetious question at all. It’s a topical question that since there was some conjecture around that if Australia did qualify, I think people would like to know will he be there going through to Russia.”
“I think it’s an obvious question, and all he’s done here is make it worse for himself in that he’ll keep getting asked.”
After the former rugby player and commentator showed interest in this subject, more people have been discussing this as well. What about you? What do you think? Will he leave or will he stay?
