After Gonzalez Germen was placed on the disabled list, the Mets promoted Jacob to the major leagues on May 12, 2014. He made his major league debut on May 15 at Citi Field against the cross-town rival New York Yankees. He was placed on the disabled list on August 11 due to rotator cuff tendinitis.

Jacob deGrom finalized the 2015 season with an 8-6 record and a 2.30 ERA and was named to the NL roster for the 2015 MLB All-Star Game.

He touched out three batters on ten pitches during the All-Star Game becoming the first pitcher to do so since pitch counts were kept.

deGrom refused to sign the 2016 contract for the assigned salary of $607000. He made a debut of the season on September 1 against the Miami Marlins.

He set an MLB record for most strikeouts in the first four starts of a season on April 23, 2021, against the Washington Nationals.

Similarly, Jacob was named to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in 2021, his fourth career nomination, and later he announced he would not play.

On August 2, 2022, deGrom made his Mets debut against the Washington Nationals.
