Jair Bolsonaro and COVID-19
Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s President spent three weeks in isolation after contracting COVID-19. On Thursday 30 July 2020, he had his first Facebook live video.
He said:
“I’ve just taken a blood exam. I was a bit weak yesterday. They have also found a bit of an infection. I’m taking antibiotics now. It must have been those 20 days inside the house, we catch other things. I’ve caught mold, mold in my lungs. It must be that.”
On 7 July 2020, he tested positive for the virus. He went into isolation for 20 days. Later on 25 July 2020, he tweeted that his result is negative.
And now, the President’s press office stated that his wife, Michelle has got COVID-19 and is in self-isolation. On 29 July 2020, she attended an official event in Brasilia with her husband.
But reports say that she is in good health following all established protocols. The medical team of the Presidency of the Republic is taking care of her.
Their statement said:
“The first lady is being accompanied by the medical team of the Presidency of the Republic,”
Bolsonaro thanks God and hydroxychloroquine
Jair also thanked God and hydroxychloroquine for his recovery. He said:
“I’m healed from Covid. I have antibodies, no problems. In my particular case, I first thank God, and secondly, the medication prescribed by the presidential doctor: hydroxychloroquine,”
He added:
“The following day, I was already OK. If it was a coincidence or not, I don’t know. But it works,”
However several studies worldwide have shown that hydroxychloroquine is not only ineffective but may also be harmful.

He used to attend public events without a face mask and is also seen hugging supporters. Even after his COVID-19 recovery, he continues to be the same as before. On Thursday 30 July 2020, he paid a visit to Piaui State on horseback.
He arrived at Sao Raimundo Notato airport and rode to the event on horseback with no face mask. This visit was to boost Jair’s political relations with regional authorities.
