Jane also served as a founding Director of the Mayor’s Youth Office and Department Head from 1981 to 1991. She was elected as a School Board Commissioner and was a founding member of the Women’s Council & the Film Commission. Sanders worked in her husband Bernie’s office on a volunteer basis from 1991-1995.

Afterward, this social worker was appointed as Provost and Interim President at Goddard College to help the college through a difficult period. She also served as president of Burlington College from 2004 to 2011. She was also instrumental in founding a progressive think tank which launched in June 2017, The Sanders Institute.

Later,, Jane Sanders became a member of the Advisory Panel of the Democracy in Europe Movement 2025, in 2018. She has also served as Chief of Staff and as Policy and Press Adviser in Sanders’s Congressional office.

CNN reviewed the loan application for a deal signed by Jane, in which the application stated the college would take in millions of dollars worth of pledged donations, many of which never materialized. Later, the investigation came to an end and no charge was bought.
