Jennifer Aniston misses her dear father John Aniston
Jennifer Aniston is missing her sweet papa, soap legend John Aniston, who died on Friday at the age of 89.
The Friends alum who was very fond of her father – took to her Instagram account to pay a touching tribute to the man she so dearly loved and whom she affectionately described as “one of the most beautiful humans I ever knew.”
While she shared a great relationship with her dad, Aniston’s relationship with her mom Nancy Dow was full of betrayal, mistrust, and hurt.
The mother-daughter duo shared an estranged relationship for years. It was evident when the actress delivered a less heartwarming tribute to Dow after her death in 2016.
Aniston’s statement read at the time:
”It is with great sadness that my brother John and I announce the passing of our mother Nancy Dow. She was 79 years old and passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends after enduring a long illness,”
“We ask that our family’s privacy be respected as we grieve our loss.”
The Morning Show actress and Dow’s relationship worsened when the mother decided to release a shocking tell-all tome about their relationship named From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir.
Jennifer decided to forgive her mom and eventually reconciled with her. But the Picture Perfect star has been open about their complicated relationship and the traumatic experiences she faced due to their fallout.
In a 2015 interview with Hollywood Reporter, Aniston said of her mother:
“She was critical. She was very critical of me,”
“Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn’t. I never was.”
The actress continued:
“She was also very unforgiving,”
“She would hold grudges that I just found so petty.”

Jennifer was never close to her mother as she was to her father
Dow, who was a model and actress by profession, married John Aniston in 1965. She also did the famous The Beverly Hillbillies.
After 4 years of marriage, the couple welcomed their only child, Jennifer.
The pair decided to separate when Jennifer was just nine and as time went on, the mother and daughter’s relationship started growing sour.
Things grew worse in the 1990s when Jennifer and Nancy attended a therapy session together in which Dow believed Jennifer blamed her for all of her problems.
It was also evident that the duo was barely speaking to one another even after Jennifer’s career took off after her 1994 debut with friends. Then in 1999 Dow decided to publish her controversial memoir.
The publisher of the book claimed the memoir was meant to be “helpful to those trying to overcome their own childhood trauma, the fallout from divorce, single-parenting issues, and the ‘dark hole of child/parent estrangement’” but the star was not happy by its publication.
Following the publication, Dow was no longer a part of Aniston’s life and she even didn’t get an invite to the star-studded 2000 wedding to Brad Pitt.
Aniston and Dow only started speaking six years later when the former’s marriage to Brad fizzled.
In a 2006 interview, Aniston opened up about their healing relationship and said:
“We’ve exchanged messages,”
“Our doors are open. We’re taking baby steps. It’s a good thing.”
Despite being on talking terms, Aniston never got close to her as she was to her father.
In 2011, Nancy had multiple strokes that took away her ability to talk or walk. Then in May 2016, she died in Los Angeles.
