Jill Martin divorces Erik Brooks
American TV personality and contributor on Today show, Jill Martin, 48 has started the legal procedure to divorce her husband, Erik Brooks. They were married for two years.
People magazine has reported that the couple is going for a quiet divorce. The pair did not confirm on it on their social media. Page Six gave the first sad news about the pair’s official separation.
US weekly has stated that Erik had put in his divorce papers on 30 July 2024 in a Court in Massachusetts. The day of separation has been stated as 29 July 2024.
On 4 September 2024, their spokesperson told Page Six that the couple had a prenuptial agreement. Moreover, they have no children together. Hence, the divorce would be quick and smooth. Nearly everything has been finalized at this stage itself.
The relationship timeline of the couple
The two, Erik and Jill met on a dating app. Erik is founder of Ethos Capital. They began a romantic relationship and Erik proposed to her in 2019. Jill accepted his marriage proposal.
The two had a brief separation after that but soon reunited. They had a second engagement in November 2021. And on 10 September 2022, the two exchanged wedding vows.
Jill’s social media fans had observed last month that Jill was not wearing her wedding ring when she appeared on her TV show. Some of them also pointed out that she has not been posting anything about her husband on her social media for some time now.
Jill wants her divorce to proceed in privacy. Her spokesperson said:
“Because there are families involved, and the past year has been so earth-shattering for Jill, she plans for this to be her only acknowledgment,”
“She is concentrating on her health and being an amazing daughter, friend and new aunt.”
Jill’s breast cancer diagnosis of 2023
It was in July 2023 that Jill had revealed about her diagnosis of breast cancer. This was a short time after her DNA test showed that she was carrying the BRCA gene. This gene has a high risk of future ovarian and breast cancer. At that time, an insider had said:
“Jill is focused on getting healthy and making a difference. She’s launching a new initiative on TODAY Oct. 1 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And she’s starting a new business this month.”
And Jill had expressed:
“I feel like this is a new chapter with a new journey,” Martin added. “[But] that’s not bad because I am going to take this. It will just be different.”
“And my choices will be affected by it, and my lifestyle will be affected by it, and my outlook will be affected by it. And there will be a lot of beautiful, positive silver linings that come out of it, and of course, heartbreak,”
“I mean, this is heartbreaking.”
Jill had regularly posted on her social media about her progress after the cancer diagnosis. She had a double mastectomy and also underwent chemotherapy sessions for her ailment.
She has been a fighter and wanted others in similar situation to take things as they come and stay happy.
