The pop star Justin Bieber recently opened up that he was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Lyme is the most common disease which is caused due to the infection caused by the bacteria ticks. It is becoming even more common due to the climate crisis in the US.

The singer opened up about his health issue on his Instagram post on Wednesday saying:

“While a lot of people kept saying Justin Bieber looks like s***, on meth etc. they failed to realize I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health.”

Furthermore, he also explained that he will share a documentary story on his YouTube channel which will show his struggle and outcoming from the disease.

He also described the time as a rough couple of years. The singer mentioned that he felt better due to the right treatment which helped him get out of the disease.

What is Lyme disease?

Having Lyme disease is a tough thing in itself. It is a serious disease that can be quite complex to deal with until one gets good treatment. The disease is caused due to

the infection caused due to ticks. Lyme starts with a black-legged tick otherwise known as the deer tick, Ixodes scapularis. Another bacteria called Borrelia mayonii can also lead to the disease, however, it is very rare.

Every year roughly 300,000 people suffer from Lyme alone in America. As per the experts, the infection spreads to the joints, heart, and nervous system which leads to pain and swelling in joints.

The infection slowly expands to your body and is not itchy or painful. However, the area of infection feels when you touch it. If the infected person doesn’t get the right treatment, it affects the nervous and heart system of the patient.

It can also temporarily paralyze the infected part of the body.
