K-Pop Star J-Hope Begins Military Service As He Becomes The Second BTS Member To Sign Up For Military Service!
- BTS member J-Hope started his military service on Tuesday, the singer announced on social media.
- He is the second member of BTS to enlist in the training and is expected to be followed by the rest of the group in the next few years.
BTS member J-Hope has started his military service
On Tuesday, J-Hope, a band member of the K-pop group BTS, began his mandatory military service in South Korea. This comes after he posted a farewell message to fans online.
Jin was the first member of the group to enlist in December, while the remaining members are expected to serve in the coming years.
The group announced a hiatus last year to pursue individual projects, and Hope recently released a solo album featuring rapper J Cole.
Before heading to the enlistment ceremony in the city of Wonju, he shared a photo of his freshly-shaved head on Instagram with the caption:
“I’ll have a good trip!”
On April 18, the seven members reunited for his military entrance ceremony. Some fans even turned up to the area of the army base to support the singer while others even rented a bus covered in his pictures.

Things got emotional as the Bangtan boys reunited to bid farewell to Hope
After their reunion pictures went viral, Bangtan TV shared the official video of them getting emotional. The video shows them getting emotional and sharing hugs.
Jin makes a surprise entrance. Hope greets him with a salute, and in the video as he is seen with a buzz-cut that amuses his fellow group members.
Suga enters the scene and the group’s leader RM appears very emotional and teary-eyed.
All members ask Hope to remember them often, with V jokingly requesting to be remembered while washing his hair.
RM hugs J-Hope tightly, and Jungkook gives him a back hug. Jimin and Jungkook try to lighten up the mood by jokingly saying they won’t cry for his departure to avoid making Jin feel sad.
The band has been together since 2010 and the members are very close to each other.
Is J-Hope leaving BTS?
A number of fans were concerned regarding Hope’s future in BTS after he enlisted in the military. Fortunately, BTS is not disbanding, he will temporarily leave the group to fulfill his military enlistment duty, which is mandatory for all able-bodied men in South Korea by the age of 28.
The group is expected to reunite in 2025 after all members complete their military commitments.
The South Korean government debated whether BTS members should be exempt from military service due to their cultural impact and contributions to the economy, but ultimately decided that they should serve as scheduled. K-pop stars are now allowed to defer service until they are 30 years old.
The rapper announced his enlistment on February 26, 2023. He also posted a photo of his new buzzcut with the caption:
“I love you ARMY. I’ll be back!”
BTS leader RM was also planning to enlist at the same time as Hope
Following J-Hope’s enlistment, everyone started questioning “Who’s next from BTS to join the mandatory military service?”
The answer is their leader RM! He is expected to be the next Bangtang member to enlist following his latest Weverse live stream.
During the stream, he shared his plan of joining at the same time as his fellow band member Hope but had to push it back:
“I was actually planning to enlist around the same time as J-Hope but I had to push it back because of this project. I think I will go after I complete this.”
After RM, four members of the band will be left to join the military, Jung Kook, V, Jimin, and SUGA.
