Kanye West refers to his moniker as a ‘slave name’
Kanye West loves the name Ye.
The controversial rapper’s chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, revealed a letter demanding that the whole music industry refer to the rapper as Ye and not his “slave name.”
The letter read,
“Ye is one of the most recognizable people in the world, on par with presidents and popes,”
“He didn’t take the decision to change his name, potentially sacrificing some of the immense value captured by the brand of ‘Kanye West,’ lightly. The change was made fully, legally, and permanently. This is who he is now. His name is Ye.”
Yiannopoulos, 39, wrote that he is calling on “streaming platforms, publishers, stores, unions, lyrics websites, and data resellers” to make the change since they are some of “the most visible places.”
He continued in the letter,
“He has on several occasions referred to it as his slave name,”
“Ye is a black man in America who wants the right to full self-determination just like everyone else.”
The memo comes more than two years after an LA judge signed off on West’s legal name change.
In August 2021, the Grammy winner said in his court documents that he was changing his name due to personal reasons.

Why did Kanye change his name legally?
After releasing his eponymous album, Ye teased his new name on X saying that he was “the being formally known as Kanye West.”
The Yeezy founder added, “I am YE.”
That same year, in an interview with Big Boy, the rapper told the interviewer that Ye was the most common word in the Bible.
He said at the time,
“In the Bible, it means ‘you,’
“So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye. Just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”
Internet users expressed their thoughts on Kanye’s demand, with one writing,
”By the way, you can’t DEMAND respect when you don’t give respect.
Why is that so difficult to learn??”
Another wrote,
”Does anyone really care what Kanye DEMANDS!!! I think NOT!!”
A third person commented,
”I thought he said he was God?? There’s absolutely nothing God like about him.
Everything is always for attention.”
