Kanye West’s Donda Academy is in legal trouble
Kanye West and his Donda Academy get into legal trouble for racial discrimination and wrongful termination. The star established the Christian Private institution in 2022 after his late mother’s name.
Two ex-employees of the academy named Cecilia Hailey and Chekarey Byers made claims that the school discriminated against them based on their race.
Additionally, the two also claimed that their wages were illegally withheld and that they were terminated in March 2023. That apparently happened when they reported code violations.
Hailey and Byers revealed in their court documents that they were the only black teachers working in the academy.
The legal suit also has the names of school directors Brianne Campbell, Allison Tidwell, and Chris Julian.
Hailey noted that she started noticing various health and safety violations at the institutions. Also when she noticed unlawful educational practices, she complained to the school’s principal, Moira Love.
But the school did nothing to change the problems.
In the documents, the two teachers also revealed that students were only given one meal a day, which was just Sushi. They were strictly forbidden from bringing anything from outside other than water to drink.
Kanye, 45, apparently spent $10,000 per week on sushi.
Furthermore, the two also claimed that the rapper would not allow “crossword puzzles” and “coloring sheets.” He would also apparently not allow the students to play outdoors during the day even for lunch.

Donda compromised with students’ health and education
Donda temporarily shut down in the fall of last year after West’s anti-Semitic remarks. The lawsuit also shows that the school did not have good medical staffing and kids’ medication would be “stored in the janitorial closet,”
The school principal, however, responded to the claims, calling the teachers “aggressive in the presence of others,”
The suit states,
“Plaintiffs believe this type of comment facilitates stereotypes about African-American women as being confrontational simply for doing their job and voicing their legitimate concerns in order to provide a safe environment and proper education for their students,”
“No action was taken to remedy plaintiffs’ complaints regarding sanitation, health, safety or education standard pursuant to local and state law, which plaintiffs made throughout the entirety of their employment.”
The school fired both Byers and Hailey on March 3, 2023, in the parking lot of the school. They were not given a reason for their termination.
Now they both are suing the rapper and the school to recoup unpaid wages, loss of earnings, and other employment benefits.
Byers released a statement, saying,
“I’m extremely sad about all of this. It was such a huge honor and privilege to work at Donda Academy for Kanye West. I’m a huge Kanye fan. His first album was the first I ever purchased,”
“I still enjoy his music, and I’ll never deny his talent, but while his vision for the school sounds great on paper, it’s just pure chaos and mutiny. It’s like a mental hospital being run by the patients.”
