Why did Kelly Clarkson sue ex-husband Brandon Blackstock?
Kelly Clarkson is suing her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock again.
The news of the legal battle comes just months after she won a $2.6 million ruling against him last fall.
The Stronger singer filed the complaint in Los Angeles on Monday accusing Blackstock and his father Narvel Blackstock’s management company, Starstruck Entertainment, of violating California Labor laws.
She mainly sued them for violating the Talent Agencies Act — by acting as an “unlicensed talent agency” that booked business deals on her behalf dating back to 2007.
Her lawsuit read,
“Based on the wrongful acts and conduct of Starstruck … all agreements between the parties, should be declared void and unenforceable … and all monies previously paid by cross-complainants to Starstruck should be disgorged from Starstruck, forthwith,”
The Grammy winner is also seeking reimbursement, including “commissions, fees, profits, advances, producing fees or other monies,” for some of the payments made to Starstruck Entertainment.
Blackstock, 47, and Clarkson, 41, are yet to comment on the news.
Blackstock reportedly acted unlawfully in the November 2023 ruling. It declared he should never have participated in deals for The Voice, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Wayfair, and the Billboard Music Awards.
According to California Labor Laws, only a few agents with a few exceptions can ink employment deals for their clients.

What happens if Clarkson wins the case?
While Blackstock is currently appealing the decision, his argument might be weaker if the singer wins the new lawsuit.
However, Brandon’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman spoke on the matter. He shared a statement with Rolling Stone in response to Kelly’s latest filing.
He said,
“It is morally, ethically and legally wrong to attempt to get monies back from your ex-husband who not only helped her as her manager but who used those earnings on their children and Kelly and Brandon’s lifestyle during the marriage,”
Kelly’s surprise filing came after Starstruck sued her for $1.4 million in unpaid commissions for her work on The Voice and The Kelly Clarkson Show, in 2020.
In their complaint, the company said that it “invested a great deal of time, money, energy and dedication” into Clarkson’s career. They further claimed that they made her “a mega superstar.”
Kelly and Brandon have been fighting a legal battle since they split in 2020 after seven years of marriage.
